In a story of scientific discovery, chemical biologist David R. Liu shares a breakthrough: his lab's development of base editors that can rewrite DNA. This crucial step in genome editing takes the promise of CRISPR to the next level: if CRISPR proteins are molecular scissors, programmed to cut specific DNA sequences, then base editors are pencils, capable of directly rewriting one DNA letter into another. Learn more about how these molecular machines work — and their potential to treat or even cure genetic diseases.

    Yes, yes we can. Will it stop there though? No, no it won’t.

      It will start being a great thing so I think now is the best time to be around for the start of this amazing tech. But as with all things humans make it will become a twisted mutated monster of its original self.
      As some one with Muscular dystrophy this means a cure is not that far off as they already started human trials of CrispR ( I think)

      +XMckingwill Here is some hard evidence for you to consider of how you are seemingly on the right track. Let me share something with you so that you may strongly consider the reality of how history has shown that these folks are going to cause more catastrophic consequences than any viable ones seeing as how they are going to increase mutagenic effects in an accelerated apoptosis type of effect by attempting to alter DNA. So here we go, i ask you kindly to consider the following very crucially important inescapable integrity information;

      If these people do not even tell you about Universal Entropy which is the cause of Genetic Entropy, then you deserve to be scammed and taken advantage of if you would not even so much test the very charlatan claims of these folks who push this utter scientific fraud of believing they can alter and modify a system as severely complex as DNA which THEY NEVER MADE NOR KNOW HOW IT FULLY WORKS but only VERY LITTLE, and supposedly defeat Universal Entropy when FACTUAL OPERATIONAL SCIENCE via Thermodynamics and Physics in general INDISPUTABLY PROVES they can NOT! This is QUACK SCIENCE being sold as supposed ‘factual operational science’, don’t believe it? see the below;

Why the real nature of DNA and mutation points to a young human race and refutes Neo-Darwinian macro-evolutionary theory.

      Dr. John Sanford, a retired Cornell Professor who co-invented the “gene gun” technique of genetically engineering plants, shows in “Genetic Entropy and the Mystery of the Genome” that the “Primary Axiom” is false. The Primary Axiom is the foundational evolutionary premise — that life is merely the result of mutations and natural selection. In addition to showing compelling theoretical evidence that whole genomes must in fact degenerate over time, this book strongly refutes the Darwinian concept that man is just the result of a random and pointless natural process. This is an updated version of the October 2005 edition, which includes both a new appendix and glossary.

      John (Sanford,, premier geneticist) explained how mutations, which supposedly provide the new genetic information to make evolution possible don’t do the job:

      *_‘Mutations are word-processing errors in the cell’s instruction manual. Mutations systematically destroy genetic information—even as word processing errors destroy written information. While there are some rare beneficial mutations (even as there are rare beneficial misspellings), 1 bad mutations outnumber them—perhaps by a million to one. So even allowing for beneficial mutations, the net effect of mutation is overwhelmingly deleterious. The more the mutations, the less the information. This is fundamental to the mutation process.’_*

      *Does natural selection help?*

      Dr Sanford: ‘Selection does help. Selection gets rid of the worst mutations. This slows mutational degeneration.

      *’Additionally, very rarely a beneficial mutation arises that has enough effect to be selected for—resulting in some adaptive variation, or some degree of fine-tuning. This also helps slow degeneration. But selection only eliminates a very small fraction of the bad mutations. The overwhelming majority of bad mutations accumulate relentlessly, being much too subtle—of too small an effect—to significantly affect their persistence. On the flip side, almost all beneficials (to the extent they occur) are immune to the selective process—because they invariably cause only tiny increases in biological functionality. So most beneficials drift out of the population and are lost—even in the presence of intense selection. This raises the question—since most information-bearing nucleotides [DNA ‘letters’] make an infinitesimally small contribution to the genome—how did they get there, and how do they stay there through “deep time”? Selection slows mutational degeneration, but does not even begin to actually stop it. So even with intense selection, evolution is going the wrong way—toward extinction!’* — Dr Sanford has written a book: Genetic Entropy and the Mystery of the Genome.

      ‘My recent book resulted from many years of intense study. This involved a complete re-evaluation of everything I thought I knew about evolutionary genetic theory. It systematically examines the problems underlying classic neo-Darwinian theory. The bottom line is that Darwinian theory fails on every level. It fails because:

      *1) mutations arise faster than selection can eliminate them;*
      *2) mutations are overwhelmingly too subtle to be “selectable”*
      *3) “biological noise” and “survival of the luckiest” overwhelm selection;
      *4) bad mutations are physically linked to good mutations, so that they cannot be separated in inheritance (to get rid of the bad and keep the good). The result is that all higher genomes must clearly degenerate. This is exactly what we would expect in light of Scripture—with the Fall—and is consistent with the declining life expectancies after the Flood that the Bible records.’*

      *’The problem of genetic entropy (genomes are all degenerating), is powerful evidence that life and mankind must be young. Genetic entropy is probably also the fundamental underlying mechanism explaining the extinction process. Extinctions in the past and in the present can best be understood, not in terms of environmental change, but in terms of mutation accumulation. All this is consistent with a miraculous beginning, a young earth, and a perishing earth—which “will wear out like a garment” (Hebrews **1:11**). Only the touch of the Creator can make all things new.*

      *‘All of the problems with evolutionary theory, as outlined in Genetic Entropy and the Mystery of the Genome, have now been rigorously proven using numerical simulation. We did this using “Mendel’s Accountant”, a state-of-the-art computer analytical tool for genetic systems. Five scientists—John Baumgardner, Wes Brewer, Paul Gibson, Walter ReMine, and I—developed this tool. We reported these new findings in two secular publications, and they will soon be discussed in a second book, Genetic Entropy and Mendel’s Accountant.’* ■

      +Martyr4JesusTheChrist well, entropy affects the entire universe and will ultimately cause its destruction so it makes sense that over very long time frames it would also affect genes, however, this doesn’t mean using gene editing is an intrinsically bad thing.
      The reason can be seen by taking the essence of your argument “believing they can alter and modify a system as severely complex as DNA which THEY NEVER MADE NOR KNOW HOW IT FULLY WORKS but only VERY LITTLE, therefore it is nonsense and won’t work” (correct me if this is not your argument ) to its logical extreme.

      If we do this it argues for the END of medicine, Doctors, Hospital etc, since Like DNA the human body is EXTREMELY complex, we have never made such a thing nor do we know how it fully works, yet we still have been able to modify the human body with chemicals (medicine), implants etc . . through which we have cured and/or manage various illnesses, and as you know the human body is extremely susceptible to entropy which is literally what causes aging.

      Since this is the case why would this not also apply to DNA which carries the very info that builds the human body which we ALREADY modify to cure illnesses?

      And what I meant by this tech mutating into a monster was in reference to people abusing this technology not that it would mutate humans into monsters lol.

      you also lost many points by bringing supernatural nonsense into your argument. from a book that says there are talking snakes and that doesn’t even know what stars are.

      +Martyr4JesusTheChrist Wow, some bible crazy nutcases trying to sell books with fake science which barely makes arguments good enough for the gullible uninformed to be misdirected by. Genomes are not degenerating (well, without any natural selection in modern society some bad things can carry over like bad eyesight – but most people living in the middle ages who could barely see anything died before they could reproduce – and don’t forget that most “good” genomes are dominant and not recessive. You don’t just need a “bad” mutation to occure, but the person must also reproduce AND the mutation has to be dominant to be carried over to the offspring) and “only the touch of the creator can make all things new” is even more insane than those flat-earth theories.

      Mutation can increase the amount of information the DNA has. Mutations can be simple missing parts or translation mistakes in the duplication process but a lot of mutations are actually additional patterns. Nothing in the DNA of humans suggests that they are a “young race” – at least not as young as this crazy person suggests. Sure, without natural selection some things like bad eyesight will eventually get worse if the parts are dominant and not recessive but changing the human DNA is the perfect way for solving such issues. CRISPR and similar methods of altering DNA don’t just just out parts of the DNA or rewrite them, you can add long strings of CG AT codes, increase the length of the telomer (the unused part at the end of the DNA which becomes shorter every time it is replicated which is a huge part of humans growing old and dying – some animals and plants can actually add this code back on after replication which allows them to never die unless they are killed or die by malnutrition or sickness). We are already using DNA changes to make bacteria produce most of our current medicine supply.

      Experimenting with DNA and what kind of “code” can change specific outcomes is a huge subject of research and year after year new insane breakthroughs are made. Making people more intelligent, giving them a healthier and longer life, making them stronger – anything you want. It already works with test animals well enough. But unforseen sideffects makes it a risk too large to test on humans currently. This might change in a few years once more and more of it is understood.

      And don’t forget that a lot of food we use was cultivated by only planting the “best” plants seeds of the previous generation. Such selection didn’t lead to destruction but to better suited plants for human consumption with far more yield and more resistances. And that’s long before DNA manipulation and alteration was a thing.

      Those insane people like John Baumgardner try to find evidence which supports their crazy “religion is right” theories and have been disproven a lot. Some of those people noted for the development of the tool never even worked or studied in the field of programming nor in the field of biotechnology or genetics. It’s a farce and earns them good money because gullible people eat that stuff up. Same with flat earthers or anti vax people. The main reason those “movements” exist is not that they have actual logical reasons – but because some people abuse gullible people with insane ideas which can make the creators of books and theories sourrounding it rich.

      I have not read up on of this could create some “zombie diseases”, but i bet that the technology is powerful.. So that’s why this needs to be regulated and used with supervision, respect and being cautious.
      But if it can cure cancer that’s awesome! But i am sure there are downsides to it, but i have not done any research on the topic so i am ignorant about my whole answer actually. I just don’t know, but might look it up later on..

      +evolve There are already 50+ cures for cancer, go to NaturalNews DOT com and see yourself and my own family member cured herself of LEUKEMIA via natural alternative medicine and change of diet… why not ask yourself if you are intelligent enough to discern why are you being sold dark science lies that you need to alter / modify a supra-complexity system like DNA to supposedly cure cancer when universal entropy which is what is the cause of genetic entropy is the biggest reason for our susceptiability to cancer and how come this supposedly intelligent doctor, tell you who the cancer has arisen much more in the last 50 years because of the synthetic chemical revolution in the 60s and the increase of EMF devices in our midst everywhere we go, like putting the proven cancer causing cell phone to your brain and so on?

      I think you are right that we can avoid much cancer by using natural medicine and not smoking, etc.
      But when someone has cancer crispr can help fight the cancer if i have understood that correct. Help the body which is good progress. 😉 I’m not sure how far cancer treatments have become today, but i hope they will cure every type of cancer out there. 😉

      And you actually believe this quack science in light of Universal Entropy and thus Genetic Entropy which is a trade secret among honest geneticists?

    You mean like with Crispr? Careful now, lots of possible ethical issues there.

    • Tristen Unruh-Cone // 21st May 2019 at 6:58 pm // Reply

      Justin Shim CRISPR is highly regulated and research using it is only granted by certain institutions if I’m not mistaken. There are many ethical issues surrounding it, however I think the science community is generally conscientious with its application focusing mostly on fixing genetic diseases.

    • Justin Shim // 21st May 2019 at 7:02 pm // Reply

      +Tristen Unruh-Cone my point is that we simply don’t have enough data on long-term effects and unintended consequences. I’m *not* talking about what the Chinese scientist did since nearly everyone agrees that *that* was abhorrent and *deeply* unethical. Last I heard, the scientist in China is being punished by his government because he works at a public university and is therefore a government employee.

    • Tristen Unruh-Cone // 21st May 2019 at 7:15 pm // Reply

      Justin Shim Justin Shim that is true, which is why he addresses that towards the end but that doesn’t mean great progress isn’t being made. It definitely has to become more fine tuned and more data needs to be collected before proceeding to clinical trials which is always the case for emerging medicines/medical technologies

      If it means we can cure genetic diseases, then it’s totally worth the ethic issues.

      +Justin Shim +Tristen Unruh-Cone +Stefan Etienne you folks are clearly dangerous to the public if you will not at least reconsider what i am kindly sharing with you below as one who has studied enough of Genomics and factual operational science in such matters to see easily why you folks are clearly ultracrepdarian on the matter;

      If these people do not even tell you about Universal Entropy which is the cause of Genetic Entropy, then you deserve to be scammed and taken advantage of if you would not even so much test the very charlatan claims of these folks who push this utter scientific fraud of believing they can alter and modify a system as severely complex as DNA which THEY NEVER MADE NOR KNOW HOW IT FULLY WORKS but only VERY LITTLE, and supposedly defeat Universal Entropy when FACTUAL OPERATIONAL SCIENCE via Thermodynamics and Physics in general INDISPUTABLY PROVES they can NOT! This is QUACK SCIENCE being sold as supposed ‘factual operational science’, don’t believe it? see the below;

      ■ youtube DOT com/watch?v=eY98io7JH-c – Dr. John Sanford ‘Genetic Entropy and the Mystery of the Genome” — Must Watch First — Published on Jul 27, 2012 — Mutation and natural selection lead to a loss of information over time in the human genome.

This is an updated version of the October 2005 edition, which includes both a new appendix and glossary.

      amazon . com/Genetic-Entropy-The-Mystery-Genome/dp/0981631606 — Plant geneticist: *’Darwinian evolution is impossible’* creation . com/geneticist-evolution-impossible

      *3) “biological noise” and “survival of the luckiest” overwhelm selection;

    Fantastic, but if you want to ‘cure’ autistic conditions in the specific, remember to pay attention and wait until we know more information about the high-functioning conditions (merging them with the low-mid functioning in a single disorder is ridiculous), because recent research indicates that the high functioning COULD be associated to higher intelligence, or to both higher intelligence as well as some enhanced components of creative ability. Since we don’t have confirmation because of insufficient research done towards AS and HFA, attempting to ‘cure’ or prevent these conditions could even be detrimental to society, because we don’t know what exactly AS and HFA really are.

    Before trying to fix a broken machine, one must get rid of what is breaking the machine first, otherwise the machine will continue to break, you will continue to fix it, over and over and over again. Maybe this is what they want? Something you have to pay for over and over and over again. How do you expect to fix anything if you don’t understand and stop what is causing the damage in the first place? This is also satanic, messing with gods creation is never good.
