The way we're taught to live has got to change, says author Casey Gerald. Too often, we hide parts of ourselves in order to fit in, win praise, be accepted. But at what cost? In this inspiring talk, Gerald shares the personal sacrifices he made to attain success in the upper echelons of American society — and shows why it's time for us to have the courage to live in the raw, strange magic of ourselves.

Magic is demonic, keep away from it!

  14. This talk was amazing. Glad I watched it.

  15. Charismatic, entertaining and interesting, but I’m not sure why these types of talks are taking over TED? I miss the days when it was predominantly talks on ocean exploration, preservation of a species, or new developments to improve lifes. I’m not saying these talks arent worth listening to. I just wish that the self truth talks were in a separate platform.

  16. BRAVO! ENCORE!!! The world needs a healthy dose of this magic! Thank you for sharing your wisdom Casey!!! Bravery comes in many forms.

  17. *Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind*

  18. Genius. Funny. Poignant. May we all embrace our weird, queer, gay, unique voices. Thank you.
