The most important thing you can do to fight climate change: talk about it | Katharine Hayhoe

How do you talk to someone who doesn't believe in climate change? Not by rehashing the same data and facts we've been discussing for years, says climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe. In this inspiring, pragmatic talk, Hayhoe shows how the key to having a real discussion is to connect over shared values like family, community and religion — and to prompt people to realize that they already care about a changing climate. "We can't give in to despair," she says. "We have to go out and look for the hope we need to inspire us to act — and that hope begins with a conversation, today."

+big balls well i hope you are right because our decendents are going to be fucked if not so. Still i think we should reduce the emissions of Co2. C02 is harmfull to us in areas where it can’t disipate fast enough. Also we are going to run out of oil eventually. So reducing energy consumption and going for alternative energy production still is the best we can do. But don’t get me wrong i do believe the scientist that work on this issues and not a random dude in internet.

    • +Om Nom Nom You’re talking nonsense.

      +Paige Grace Cool story

    • +big balls No, it’s a scientific fact that CO2 absorbs infrared radiation. Your opinion doesn’t change that.

    • +Om Nom Nom burning oil puts off CO2? You mean it scares the CO2 away? You must be about 12.

I’m glad the most important thing we can do about climate change is talk about it.

      +MrWagman11 yup… exactly

    • John Hillman I’m waiting for people to propose returning to the 17th century. I believe liberals have this romantic notion that they want to live on a homestead where they grow their own food and read under candlelight. They believe life was better then. Very few would even be able to survive such a life.

+Nicholas Littlejohn Hey do you know that the carbon impact of a tesla in a country where more of 50% of your electricity come from coal plants is greater than a car running with oil? Thats for example the case of germany, poland, china and a lot more …

“If the thermometer tells us the temperature is rising, humans are the cause of it, and the only thing we can do is wean off fossil fuels”. I hate to break it to you, but thermometers don’t do the last part, and fossil fuels being used in Africa would be better long term for the climate right now

  7. Miles Coverdale // 11th January 2019 at 5:24 pm // Reply

Yes, talk, whilst planes are pumping our chemicals above our heads, leaving chemical trails as false clouds. Global warming is just another distraction, like CND was in its day, and earthquakes before that, and pandemics, etc.

    • Miles Coverdale exactly. Its all about geo engineering. They have been doing it for decades too…

    • Miles Coverdale at first I thought it was a troll but one look at your channel indicates that you’re dead serious about chem trails. Unless you’re a really dedicated troll. Either way chem trails don’t exist. Stop being ignorant

  8. I am more worried of all the chemicals in our food and water, big pharma linked to Monsanto. The propaganda push for vaccines, who knows what poisons they are pushing so profusely. Climate always changes, the sun is middle aged, climate will change with or without humans. We are entering a mini ice age not global warming.

    • +big balls well when we were liitle autism was rare, today it has skyrocketed. Also flu shots, why is that pushed by hollywood so much on us? What crap is in those flu shots/vaccines? We truly have NO idea and we blindly let ourselves and kids get injected by stuff “they” tell us are good for us. Keep being a sheeple!

    • +Om Nom Nom subaban?

    • +Mon P.
Autism is more closely linked to the amount of air pollution around mothers during the pregnancy, being Gay is related to testosterone exposure prior to the birth of a son and climate change is linked to atmospheric carbon (and has been as far we know, including those times there were huge volcano eruptions in the 1100s).

    • Edit: I support vaccines. But I hate how big pharma markets them like Trump markets the wall.

I’m working on a project about climate change right now. I was hoping to find recent material, but I didn’t expect to find something from 25 minutes ago.

  10. I pee in the shower and bathe once a week. I am saving so much water

  11. Evangelical “Christians” don’t CARE. That is the problem.

They don’t care because they believe they are going to be raptured out of this mess so they want to speed it up so they will be raptured sooner!

People need to cite Revelation 11:18 to them.
It says God is going to “destroy those who are destroying the earth …”

… I guess you could call THAT a form of rapture.

Aah religion always rears its head. It mainly serves the wishful thinking of those who want to invest in a dogma offering magic potions for a safe passage to the afterlife. Religion is a multi headed creature harboring some of the best qualities of human nature, plus bigotry, discrimination, abuse of power, lies, coercion, jealousy, hatred & animosity – steer clear if you can.

Why do they always says people deny climate change…. the majority don’t deny it …they just either don’t think it’s a big issue because every prediction has been wrong and the solutions proposed don’t solve anything… How many people have died because of climate change vs how many have died because they lack fossil fuels that run the machines to make their environment livable.

  13. Yes talk about it while I eat this delicious piece of steak.

  14. lmao so many losers in the comments saying climate change isn’t real…. okay buddy…. sure. Those of us who have been paying attention can actually see and feel the difference in the past 10 years but it’s all in our heads i’m sure lmao. my birthday is in early may. when i was a kid it was always green, sunny & i had my bday party outside. now every year on my bday it is rainy, no flowers out yet like when i was young & usually still lots of snow on the ground. when i was younger i remember being shocked along with everyone else that it was snowing in early october. i mean this is canada sure but usually we made it till mid novemeber where i am before we had snow. now snow before halloween is very common. climate change is a natural process, yes, but we have accelerated it beyond recognition.

  15. How about they (scientist and politicians) do something or STFU? It’s not up to us regular people. What they really want is to have a special interest to squeeze money out of us and cause political divide. If climate change was so dire, the rich and powerful would solve it themselves.

    • Some of “the rich” think exactly like you do. Some people would even consider you rich. And how will these millionaires spending more money helping the general public to live a more sustainable life? A few people can’t save us all from climate change.

Always ask yourself: cui bono? In this case, legions of politicians, bureaucrats and other parasitical communist sympathizers living off of the taxpayer under cover of this religion. The “science” is enormously skewed by “calibrated” data and faulty models that are presented as fact. The so-called scientific consensus is a lie, it only holds when you ask climatologists, which is like asking voodoo doctors whether voodoo is real and whether you should keep paying them for their rituals. There are plenty of other scientific fields that study the weather that do not agree at all. Anybody who has ever worked with mathematical models knows that the model generates what you want it to. A lot of people are benefitting from selling you this thing, hard. Whatever conclusion you draw, you should keep this in mind.

Uhhh what about the consumption of meat and dairy?

    • I was waiting for her to speak about it for the whole video as well… Going vegan (or mostly) is probably the single biggest step one can do to reduce its negative impact. Funny how nobody speak about it

    • “The most important thing you can do to fight climate change: Speak about it*”
*but only when it’s convenient and doesn’t intervene with our food preferences/selfish pleasure

    • Vegans farts a lot more and they’re even more stinky
