  1. That opinion doesn’t change biology?

    • It’s psychology.

    • but biology changes opinions!

@Mango Lover I mean, who should we trust here, prestigious medical organisations or some asshat in the youtube comments? Ooh, I know.

When people talk about biology in terms of transgender people, they are almost always referring to the sex=gender question, including Beatness and the person they were replying to.

    • I’m a Chinese, I think transgender people should be respected. Biology is a way of seeking the regulation about our body. Not a people’s gender identity. Gender identity is a totally different complicated concept related to many other subjects. You mixed things up.

    • Cullen You have a good day sir ! I treat these sort of people as you say and they are human beings. Good luck on your mental health journey!

    • +Gabby Turato biology doesnt have anything to do with whats wrong in sombodys head thats psychology. People live on the planet not in it.

    • This is quite a common misunderstanding with how Biology works to say that it had a design or a purpose to do something. Genetic mutations (ie errors in the genetic sequence) occur at a random. Some times they do nothing at all. Some times further genetic mutations occur down the line giving rise to new traits. Biology doesn’t decide to create a barrier to overpopulation via transgenderism or homosexuality. While the exact scientific understanding behind occurrence of these traits isn’t 100% there has been research on male homosexuality and corresponding genes that present higher fertility in females with the gene while approx.
10% of those males with the gene could be homosexual.
The hypothesis for this being; the female can then produce more offspring which gives her genes more potential to continue on. The homosexual male can help his mother and/or sisters to provide for the offspring without having offspring of his own to provide for.

  5. Fact’s don’t care about your feelings.

  6. Mentally yes… someone might have the feelings of identifying as another gender but physically “she” is not a female and the gender she was assigned is the gender she belongs to. And yes Anne’s story is sad and the other accounts of trans people and the horrible conditions and treatment they received are heartbreaking but biology is biology and in my personnel opinion it should stay this way

    • thenonexistinghero // 23rd October 2018 at 9:26 pm // Reply

They generally can’t identify as a female (except for the very few rare cases of someone with a specific mutation). Men’s bodies are different than women’s bodies and both experience the world differently. That’s all biologically determined. I’d even argue that a person can’t identify as a certain gender, because everyone is just the gender they are born with.

    • pegasusquilts // 23rd October 2018 at 9:53 pm // Reply

To “identify as” a gender in this context means to feel in your heart of hearts that that is who you are. Many transgender people don’t get hormone treatment or surgery, they just want to be able to live their lives as the person they feel they are. Priests feel a calling or vocation and wear a uniform every day and give up certain behaviors for others for life. They aren’t born that way, but no one tries to tell them they shouldn’t do it. Actors change their names, leave home and create whole new personalities and are praised for it. Why should anyone be treated like a pariah and denied basic human respect over something that in many cases you wouldn’t even know about them unless you actually knew them at the time they changed their name?

    • pegasusquilts // 23rd October 2018 at 9:59 pm // Reply

The speaker isn’t telling you to endorse anything or anyone. She’s asking for common decency toward your fellow human beings. People who are not threatening you in any way but who are being threatened. Isn’t that what good people do?

    • +pegasusquilts

Changing name is different than changing gender

We don’t want anything to do with them. All we want is basic human respect.

    • +sushi and slushies who is not accepting you as people? Tell me and I will fight them with you. This is not about not accepting trans people as people. It’s about accepting reality. Like someone said here, feminine males and masculine females should be accepted in society, but pretending s ex can be changed is wrong.

  12. Science doesn’t care about your feelings.

    • … You mean the science of feelings doesn’t care about your feelings?

    • On the contrary, psychology cares quite a bit about feelings.

What you mean to say is “I don’t care about how trans people feel”. To which all i can say is “Ok, why are you here then?”

    • You misread my comment, I was phrasing the original comment in a more accurate way to prove its stupidity. I have nothing but love and support for trans people 🙂

EDIT: Wait were you even responding to me oh my god am I stupid

    • @Emily, I was aiming my comment at “Gaming Lord”, you’re all good. Youtubes comment system can’t really handle reply threads so don’t worry about it 🙂

    • I’m a Chinese, I think transgender people should be respected. People mentioned “biology” and “facts” a lot. Biology is a way of seeking the regulation about our body. Not a people’s gender identity. Gender identity is a totally different complicated concept related to many other subjects. While “fact” is a relatively defined word. And itself means nothing. I think some western religious/haters/misogynistic/stupid people should be less narrow minded. Or just less stupid, less malicious.

    • most of the comments are shocking and incredibly disrespectful

  15. I thought Ted was better than this

  16. This is a very important video. As someone studying psychology and aspiring to be a doctor, I understand how crucial it is for someone seeking medical help to feel understood and to be treated in the best way possible. The medical professionals today should be trained to treat ALL patients.

Please reach out to your neighbors, your community, your place of faith. Talk to each other. Understand each other. HAVE those difficult conversations. The more we listen to each other’s stories, the better.

    • Rosemary would you try to “understand” a homicidal maniac? Someone diagnosed with a violent mental disease? Try to feel where they are coming from? Get real, some diseases like “transgender” just aren’t meant to be understood because it is so unrealistic. I would love to be something that I’m not, but guess what, I live in reality, and I can’t fucking buy it.

    • They need to be referred to a mental health dr. for psychological treatment.

    • Thank god you are here this comment section is full of people who are afraid of transgenders and don’t even pretend to know how to use their brains and conceive of tolerance

  17. Also, I’m a nurse and I have taken care of people who are transgender. I try to respect them as a human being and show them the respect they deserve as a human. It is difficult to comply with all of their requests to respect their gender. Here’s why. Sometimes you forget when someone looks like a man and has male genitalia and you refer to them as sir when they want to be referred to as ma’am. They then get angry with you and report you. A lot of these transgender folks demand respect. It seems like if they would just be friendly and realize that people could care less whether they are male or female they would get along better. Live and let live is what I say.

    • Andrea Lynn I guess you need an update on education and EHR! What a place you work at! Certainly not an updated one! Instead of writing nonsense here, be the advocate you signed up for on your profession and request training and an updated system.

    • +Gabby Turato I don’t NEED anything of the sort. What a waste of resources for a supposed not-for-profit endeavor. You must work for a liberal university medical center, yes?? Explains a LOT. I’m done arguing with the mentally ill. This video was enough for today…

    • Andrea Lynn Well I feel bad for your patients. They deserve better! Bye, Felicia!

    • Most of my patients are in a traumatic life-threatening situation. The last thing anyone should be worried about is whether we mistake their penis for identifying as a female. You can take your PC BS and shove it…my opinions on YT do not mean I am not damn good at what I do…I don’t expect newbies like you to understand what it takes to do so. Thanks for your unsolicited opinion, biotch! Never had one complaint; matter of fact, I get frequent flyers requesting me.

    • Andrea Lynn Newbie? Girl, I got mileage in healthcare and know when I see a professional that needs training! CEUs for you! Once again “good at what you do” but does not know how to advocate! Healthcare 101!

  18. I am confused so please educate me.

What do you mean when you say “she always knew she wasn’t a boy?” What exactly does being a boy entail? Is it based on societal norms? If so, which societal norms? Would she be a “boy” in a Western culture, but a “girl” in an Asian culture? I am having a difficult time imagining what factors, other than biological, separate male vs. female.

Then you said gender is a spectrum and I would like more clarification. How exactly does that work? To have a spectrum, there must be the extremes at the end. So, what are the theoretical qualities of a 100% girl and a 100% boy? What about someone who is in the middle? Please give me some examples, thank you.

    • +FEMINISTS and SJWs are terrorists wow I never thought I’d meet a real life t€rf

    • Lucy Bateman great video!! it really helped me get a better understanding of the spectrum. (also, the commenter calling you a bigot has copied and pasted the same message throughout this entire comment section. they’re neither open-minded or creative, simply irrelevant to any context, so don’t let them get to you !)

    • +chlo c; Wow!! Thank you so much for your reply, this comments section has been really getting me down. And honestly Ash is amazing, their videos are so informative and downright adorable that they make such an effective learning tool for those who are unsure of their gender identity!!

    • Lucy Bateman same, and I couldn’t have said it better myself! Sometimes education closes the gap between anyone who doesn’t see eye to eye ❤️

    • thats actually illogical af cuz if youre boy or girl and you yourself call yourself boy or girl then you infact feel like a gender even though technically the word is ascribed to a feeling of being. so your point is void and youre just being an idiotic troll lol.

  19. People are sick of this

  20. Jim Griffiths // 23rd October 2018 at 9:20 pm // Reply

Doctors should treat him as a male, because that’s objectively the best way to do it. You don’t treat a male as female and say _”It’s okay. I won’t bother checking your prostate for cancer because I accept your gender identity.”_

My point of view is that transgender people, who feel so scared of going to the doctors due to feeling they’ll be treated as the “wrong gender”, should realise they need medical care to be administered objectively, not based upon their personal feelings.
