We're all against hate, right? We agree it's a problem — their problem, not our problem, that is. But as Sally Kohn discovered, we all hate — some of us in subtle ways, others in obvious ones. As she confronts a hard story from her own life, she shares ideas on how we can recognize, challenge and heal from hatred in our institutions and in ourselves.

I hate hypocrisy
I left the left

1 less libtard
Throwean Emperor I didn’t say I stopped being a liberal. I’m definitely not progresive though, and those idiots have infected the left, so I can’t call my self part of it.
Jacob Schmidt heard that real liberalism is dying. I think if the ride doesn’t change in the next 20 years it’ll be gone
5 likes 5 dislikes, I hold all the power.
Retribution
221 likes 221 dislikes, yet again I hold all the power
I’ll be hateful and dislike it.
“And she’s lesbian so” nice, but does it matter? no. will it influence my voting? no.
Tiavor Kuroma that is the completely right thing to do, don’t vote for Obama because he’s black, don’t vote for Hillary because she’s a woman. I was just reversing the roles to demonstrate how stupid that logic is.
(((Ted)))
oy vey, the goyim know!
Shut it down!
Oy vey. I was just looking at the ted video thumbnail and then i saw (((them))).
Watch her debate with Crowder. He absolutely destroys her.
True, but why did that Golden Age end? Was it because they took a more liberal reading of the Qu’ran? Al-Ghazali, the man who helped put an end to the Greek philosophical influences in those societies was, and still is, considered a renewer of the faith and venerated widely.
Joel Ashworth i have always stated fundamentalism always takes root under extreme poverty bit not always there are some rulers who benefit from a population under strict rules.
All religions are bullshit but people have the ability to use any text to their advantage and you can reform it one step at a time.
The Golden Age of Islam was not brought to an end by poverty or cynical rulers. It was brought to an end by theology and ideas. If we keep misdiagnosing a problem then how can we ever hope to solve it.
Dimetropteryx Crowder’s speech at the UMASS event with Milo and Sommers begs to differ. Not to mention all of his debunking videos.
Level Joe you mean Humans or only men ?
You really chose Sally Kohn for this? Of EVERYONE?
(((Kohn)))
I assume that you say this because you find her to be a person that pushes hate. If thats the case then who better than someone who is being introspective and admitting thier own flaws? Anyone who gabe this talk would be a hypocrite if they did so in a holier than though way wouldnt they?
William jones Don’t start making sense now.
who is she?

Had to jump in here before the comments get disabled…
Unfortunately most kids mean thoughts come from their parents being judgmental assholes. It infects families like a disease and they don’t even realize they’re passing it down. It takes recognizing it, looking in the mirror and doing a lot of work to undo it.
This is very difficult for many to accomplish. Unlike the terrorist story, whether it be hyperbole or not, had an empty cup, many people are filled cups that refuse to be emptied.
Full of ideas and preconceived notions; they assuredly won’t come for teaching like the scholar Tokusan.
“It takes recognizing it” <-- and that's the hard bit... take your own comment, for example, which is extremely judgemental of parents and entire families - in bulk - as the primary unwitting source of meanness in kids, which really puts the mental in judgemental. Firstly, a lot of mean acts carried out by children aren't mean inspired, take the shampoo example from this talk, here Vicky was co-lateral damage in one kid seeking approval/attention from the other kids, the goal wasn't to hurt Vicky because it wasn't about Vicky, it was a selfish act, and the problem with selfishness is it's happiness to make victims of others who's feelings are simply not considered - which is different from considering someone's feelings in a desire to hurt them. The act is hateful, but the motivation is selfish. We all do things that will have a negative effect on somebody who we either didn't consider, or we didn't do the necessary groundwork to ensure our considerations were accurate... judgemental is to assume those unconsidered (and often "obvious") negative effects were the desired INTENT, a dangerous assumption that will lead you to act in this very way, because you are not considering the other person when you are only considering the effects of their actions that are obvious to you. Too long spent looking in the mirror is not considerate of others.
annoloki I don’t think she meant judgemental in that way. I mean, look at parents (usually the father) at child sports… idk about US but in my country a lot of them act like they are in a contest of hate
Candice Lambert “a lot of work to undo it.” By work you mean brainwash ? It’s a real question.
Sally Kohn needs to look in the mirror. She is the epitome of hate. I can’t stand her.
Angela Barrera thats exactly what she is doing
Why can’t you stand her? What is it about her that makes you hate her?
She’s a smart woman advocating for the betterment of societal standards. How do you spend your time other than posting mean comments on the internet?
tania c I see nothing smart about her but her smartalec mouth.
Koala Rizo yeah, well I guess she doesn’t know how to change cause she is still a hateful woman.
Angela Barrera damn okay. That’s your opinion I guess.
These Ted Talks have been absolute garbage as of late.
Brindher Singh bye
OMG! Yes!!! I feel like “they were seen as intellectual” which WAS true. Now they have been hijacked, presumably, on that premise. Sad
great video. i was mean to certain kids in school as well and i still remember it. it doesnt go away. it stays with you.
Koala Rizo it stays with them as well.
Having a different opinion or even negative opinion is not hate.
bluemeeni no having a different opinion is not. Thinking less of someone or negatively of someone because of that difference in opinion is.
If someone said 2+2=5 you could say that person is an idiot which would be hateful even though they are infact incorrect. Or you could see that person as being misinformed.
I know, this PC SJW stuff is ridiculous just because you call someone an idiot doesnt mean you hate them… this is why everyone needs thier safe space… snowflakes…
Its cool we just disagree. Still love ya have a good one.
I don’t see anything in this video that claims it is?
To all of the leftist snowflakes calling the comment section bullies: calling her out for her hypocrisy isn’t people being hateful, it’s us doing our due diligence to call out propaganda when we see it
William jones Not in this individual talk which is why people who know who she is are commenting and letting others know that not everything she says can be taken at face value
AoG Eastside yeah to be honest i dont know her or her stuff. So if this is disingenuous it makes sense why people are so against the messenger.
I like the message though , and we are critical thinkers that can isolate the two.
William jones I think we can agree on that. The message is great and what people need to hear, I just fear that she knows what the right message is but chooses not to reflect it in her life
AoG Eastside she did say its hard to do. And shes right. Some people make it very hard. Its sad if she isnt infact attempting to practice what shes preaching.
William jones I agree. Glad we could have a civilized conversation, that’s hard to find

You smashed your pillow ?
The very word hate in this context is a massive straw man and projection. It implies that those who don’t agree with you are motivated by the worst human emotion. It can’t be part of any reasoned argument because no one is going around claiming to be hateful. On the whole it seems to be a projection of the speaker’s subjective emotional state when they come across an opinion which contradicts their sacred beliefs.
Or… could you be reading into this differently than the speaker intended?
She never sys its hateful to disagree. Nor does she say that all disagreement comes from a place of hate. Rather its the way that people disagree that is the problem. Also at times the reasons, the biases that we bring inyo the disagreement that are hateful.
William jones no its how you interpret those biases is what is hateful buddy. Dont mix up calling out someone who is wrong, with verbally attacking them. Hate is not so broad. The only hate that is present is the hate from the person who claimed theyre the one hated. This is victim culture. Did you even listen to the speech? She compared bullies to Nazi’s as or they have the samemind set. But theyre not the same she claimed. Because bullies didnt throw her in an oven. Thats literally what she said. And if you contiune to make language that broad all words will loose their meaning and you will be able to infere whatever hate you want from there speech. Besides how is fighting hate by hating hate speech the proper way to do it? Thats literally her way of fixing this. Hate the haters tell they apologize. Have you read her book? Its the very definition of victim culture.
ReformedThe i havent read her book. I will certainly look into it. Not sure why you called me buddy?
She’s basically saying that bullies and nazis are on the same plane. Obviously they are far from each other on the scale but some bullying can be very serious crimes.
I guess we just took away different things from this talk. I took away that it is up to us as individuals to be better. To actively not be hateful and encourage others to do the same.
“Culture of hate”? Really? You think our culture approves hate. I mean, if you think that, I probably won’t convince you otherwise.
Edit: If a culture teaches hate, that culture must also approve hate, maybe not all hate, but hate nonetheless. (I only put this edit here because of the idiot below)
Pisstburgh Bear Also no one is saying that it is just hate that is being taught, other things like compassion are and creativity are in the mix. Also no-one is saying people are monsters but it seems that way when you focus on the hate. You should read the Lucifer effect which goes into why good people do bad things.
Damn the modern Western world sounds like one of the worst places in history, from reading these comments. So many children, who seem to have no conception of the world or history, and how lucky they are and how benign their worlds are.
To Err is Huma conception? do you mean concept? ;D
+blub What a silly question. Why are you asking silly questions? If I had to guess, I’d guess you didn’t like what I said, but, given it’s absolutely true, you had nothing to say against it, so you decided to try – and fail – at picking at my grammar.
David Rosales That’s a cop out that makes it so you don’t have to provide evidence. But even if that’s so, you should still be able to prove it. Also, there’s absolutely no way she’s done a “lifetime of research.”
She called herself “overly intellectual” LOL
Yes, thank you! I was thinking the same thing. wtf..
Looks like a lot if people think hate is not a problem.
Leftist definitions of hate and racism are the problem.
When they say hate culture. Others can easily say and give evidence to this as being a victim culture. Sorry. But no one thinks hate isnt a problem. Its that policing people thought speech is worse then hate.
You hate the things that are bad. That’s it. Civilization only thrives on not being welcoming to everything.
