Just wondering what your thoughts are on movement as an art form, considering many of the postures in your yoga routines exemplify the poise and posture showcased within dramatic forms of contemporary dance…the exquisite lines and controlled extension which create a certain quality of expression. Do you think eastern philosophies such as yoga may have influenced western performance arts from even the earliest stages of their development? If they have in fact developed separately, how do you think yoga captures that inherent beauty everyone seems to associate within the contours and motion of the human body?
Ballet was developed in France during the reign of Louis the 14th for example and yoga was not known in the West until the 20th century so I doubt yoga had any influence on the evolution of western performance art. We’re al humans and beauty is fairly universal I think, so these things developed in parallel.
