Is there someone in your life dealing with anxiety, depression or thoughts of suicide — but is too ashamed to talk about it? Jeremy Forbes saw this happening around him, and now he's on a mission to teach people how to start a conversation about it. In this deeply personal talk, Forbes shares his approach to helping a group of traditionally silent men in his community open up about their struggles. "We can all be life preservers," he says.

oh
“Suicided”is that even a word
It beats “committed suicide” like it’s a crime. “Suicided” works!
Sure is buttercup
Thank you!
That’s exactly what I thought
Verbing has been around since Calvin and Hobbes was published.
No. No it isn’t.
Thank you for talking about this
did he mean “commit suicide”?
Well….if you think about it, saying “commit suicide” sounds even more strange.
As though to kill yourself…..is akin to _breaking the law._ It’s just an absurd and even _obscene_ way to talk about this particular subject. Wouldn’t you agree?
avedic ‘to commit’ isn’t only about breaking the law…
“Suicided” is a murder made to look like a suicide. Excellent TT!!
So we should arrest the victim for attempted murder?
nothing at all
Oh, yes, I’m sure that’ll help. /s
Allow medical assisted end of life and you have a fair system where you are actually honoring the individuals needs and desires … you also have to be Honest and admit that suicide is not always a bad choice.
It will take some time. I found it interesting that in the cartoon show “Futurama”, they had suicide booths (like a telephone booth).
The mass murder of people, comunities, societies, nation’s, etc…. Is acceptable and encouraged, yet something like assisted suicide, or suicide in general is frowned upon. But then again, if you have a massive slave working class, and they decided that they’d rather not be, than to be alive and have to be slaves to other humans, and they woke up one day and decided a mass suicide — who will then tend to the con artistry of “elite men” and their fearless manner of situating people into a endless vicious cycle of social engineering against those people, to do the bidding of a bunch of greedy swine.
Once the truly technologically advanced future arrives onto the present time, things will get interesting.
You start it the same way you end it: “I love you mom”
Sebastian Elytron that’s not how I’d end it
Step 1: die
Step 2: Rejoice that you were revived, because there is more value in you than you think you have.
Tungsten tyrannosaurys Step 3: It’s normal to take meds or taking health care so you can visit doc’s office
Hey, hold my beer.
This guy’s heart is great and definitely completely in it, but good lord someone needs to introduce him to the phrase “commit suicide”.
“australiens tend to short things”
we don’t say “commit” because that’s old speak when it was illegal against the religion and the law of the country. Dies of or suicide, succumbed to suicide, or suicided are the correct and more accurate term.
fair nuff, Crafty
There’s something wrong with his voice too. It’s almost like there’s a country outside of the U.S. This is all very suspicious.
Another useful idiot brainwashed and ready to help indoctrinate men into the cult of it’s rather fun and definately macho to be nuts. Just take two of these red ones, one of these yellow ones and tree of these blue ones and you’ll never think of suicide again, you’ll never think again full stop
The main reason people end up on mental health medication is because they don’t talk to people in time. People can overcome suicidal tendencies without medication and obviously that’s preferable, but for that to happen they also need to go to talk to people in time.
Know a guy here who’s had a good bit of personal trouble lately that some months ago confessed to me that the other night he had been standing on a chair at his 8th floor balcony. He also didn’t want to start taking pills, but his best friend managed to talk him into going to see a therapist. Dude’s not on meds or anything, still working, and seems to be improving, he’s around more and seems generally less stressed.
This whole idea that the only way to deal with depression or anxiety is to either bottle it all in/ignore or or take meds is not only incorrect, it’s not helpful because spreading it actually prevents people from getting help before they get so bad they either off themselves or break down and it gets so bad that they’ll either start using drugs/alcohol heavily to take the slow way out or they end up in a psych ward.
Suicide numbers have been on the rise for decades now, and it’s one of the leading causes of death for young people (and by young I mean, people under 30), so I ask you kindly to stop treating this matter so lightly and get some perspective before you condemn a man who’s just trying to help dudes out.
This is how we beat suicides. This stuff melts away in the light of communication with understanding people.
What if you have already given up on yourself? What if the only thing you want is to die and leave this world? What if you know you have a terminal disease if not treated and just let your body die? What if you can’t tell anyone, not even your own family?
L 05 why can’t you tell anyone?
If you’re confused about “suicided” or “suicides” a lot of people use those terms instead of “committed suicide” or “killed them self” sometimes just to shorten and sometimes to almost be more respectful because you don’t want to say it like they committed a crime or something of the sort
Nice life, think I’ll take it
Nice life, think I’ll take it
Nice life, think I’ll take it
The topic is good but as an individual it didn’t give me any useful information unfortunately.
I still don’t know how to speak about suicide with someone who is struggling
Ok ok, wait up,
Remind me what a Tradey is?
I think something that goes “Hey do you guy wanna kill yourselves?” should do the trick.
