What Brendon says about block time is something I experienced first hand. I got a full-time job from 8 till 4. But I set a plan to prepare for IELTS. I decided to wake up as early as 1 am (I sleep very early) and dedicate 2 to 4 hours for studying. Sometimes over the period of two months or so I would only sleep for only 4 hours each day. -Don’t do it. It’s unhealthy- But this block time thing bore its fruits. After more than a year of preparation, I got band 8. But that’s not the best part about block time. Here are the real gold behind this strategy:
1- It solidify the habit of productivity: If you keep doing the same thing every day, for the same period of time your brain will be reprogrammed. Which means soon enough doing those sessions won’t cost you any willpower at all.
2- It made me happy: Because the first part of my day was dedicated to something related to making progress toward my dreams. I wouldn’t be as happy if I started my day doing anything else. Can you imagine waking up at 1 am and still be as happy as a clam? It’s insane. And it was true for me.
3- It allows your brain to shift into higher gears while working: If you work for 30 minutes then gets distracted, your brain switch whatever it got in his working memory and put the distraction subject in it instead, which makes him revert back to the first gear. Square one. However, if you maintain the same “Subject” withing working memory for a long period of time with just short breaks, your brain will keep shifting into higher gears which will allow for more productivity and much deeper understanding of the subject in hand. You will be more productive than you could possibly imagine.
Block time is a golden strategy. Listen to Brandon.
Thank you very much Brendon
“The big D” means something different to millenials. Haha. I don’t know if anyone in your audience fit that demographic, but that could definitely garner some giggles.
