SUMMARY:
——————–
It’s a great myth that we should never compare ourselves to others. How would we gain perspective, values, standards, ideas, ambition, or growth if we removed ourselves from our social context? The truth is there are healthy ways to compare yourself to others:
1. Compare for creativity, not looks:
It’s demoralizing to compare yourself to others at surface levels like appearance or outward success. Instead of asking how you can be like others, ask how you are different; compare to discover creative distinction not to conform. You can't make any major contribution in life without understanding how you are distinct. You’ll access a new creative edge when you start looking outward and asking, “How would I go about that differently? What’s my perspective and how is it different? How could I add even more value in a unique way?”
2. Compare for vision, not followers:
Never evaluate yourself on the size of your friendship base or fans. If you do, you’ll always feel down noticing others have more than you. Instead, look to how others are serving, about how they’re shaping and moving towards a vision. When you meet people who want to make a big difference in the world, it makes a big difference in you.
3. Compare for growth, not achievement:
When you see talented people achieving the remarkable, it should inspire you to level up. If you can look at someone who is doing something better than you and it inspires you to grow, you have humility and you have a chance. If their success threatens you or causes you bitterness, you’ll never ascend.

Amazing! Perfect timing in my life haha
I’ve been constantly comparing my music to the music of others, my fan base to that of others and even my own looks to people who..I haven’t even seen (don’t ask haha). Anyway, these videos help a lot.
I had a suggestion: dealing with relationship past (trust, confidence, forgiving, etc.)
Would that be possible in the future?
You are an amazing person!
Couldn’t have been better timing for this in my life. Thank you for this. Sometimes you just need a reminder to take a step back and look at how we destroy ourselves internally.
You are so awesome Brendon! Thanks for your words..
Thanks B, I needed this; really bad. Zig says to absorb this type of content it needs to be watched 16 times.
Amazing as always…
One thing I always find myself envying – is other people’s FACE FEATURES! Basically, the most unchangable things you were born with – your face features, your height, your built, your race, parents etc.
Everything else is achievable.
If I can achieve it – why envy? I’ll just achieve it.
But something unchangable what you were born with – THAT’s what makes me overcomed with envy-like emotions!
Isn’t that reasonable?
Isn’t that inargueable?
+andy wang Well looking good and have beautiful face features is not the same thing. 🙂 Just looking good and well groomed is easy and achievable. 🙂 I am already good looking, lean and neat. But I got heavenly jealous every time I see a true beauty of a face features! Especially the Swedish type! Blond Swedish race, always fall for them badly and got depressed I didn’t born the same. And ‘everyone must be different’ lame excuse is not working. 🙂 Don’t you ever experience it?
With years I came to the conlclusion that it’s somehow unavoidable.
oh, okay, i got you. is there a reason why that makes you jealous? i understand that you dont believe its achieveable, but there has got to be a deeper reason as to why that makes you jealous. i agree those people are beatiful though:). you should not be feeling jealousy. you can totally acknowledge that something may be unachieveable without feeling a single negative thought or emotion
I know that feeling. And there isn’t really any magic words that can be said to change that feeling. But my advice is that You just have to focus on your true features and inner beauty to not feel envy for others physical features. Like if you have lovely eyes, make them stand out more. If you like your lips, make them stand out more. Make your strongest features present. Also workout on, and try to make your body the best it can be. I can tell you now, out of experience, that once I started feeling positive, and accepting myself for everything I am. I’ve had more people attracted to me than I ever had in my life. Personality is huge on attraction. And I know that might sound like bullshit to people who have deep insecurities for their physical appearance. But it seriously matters a lot.
I Agree 100% Brendon! Compare but from a clear place. Others to look up to to help you STRETCH!
A really great video. Share this with as many people as possible because a lot of people suffer because of this comparison of the wrong things.
Wow… needed to hear this. As much as I KNOW this to be true in theory, it’s much harder to follow in practice. I think it’s especially tough in the fashion arena… often considered a young woman’s game. BUT, you are RIGHT. If you start playing the comparison game, you will never achieve your goals. So…today… I am thinking about what an advantage I have, being a 40+ year old fashion blogger/youtuber! There aren’t many of us. Thanks for sharing!! Erin
Every night before I go to bed I gotta YouTube and watch one of your amazing videos…thank U so much man.. Keep it up
Mohammed OmaR me tooooo
I love you, you’ve been changing my life.
Thank you so much Brendon. I literally unfollow people because it gets to the point where I feel so bad about myself in comparison I can’t stand to look at them any more. It’s pretty sick really, this video gave me great perspective, it’s definitely a tough challenge but I will try to only compare myself in a positive way from now on. Rhiannon
+rhiannon murphy I know how you feel
I recently have compared myself in wrong way I’m jealous of others peoples success like graduating college, their career etc. I just feel like a loser whenever I look at them and I’m not doing anything in my life.
What do you want to do?
To summon up be independent, and to travel.
Do what you like and make your own world. Your life is your world, what goes on beyond that should not concern you (help others when you can, though). Do what makes you happy and just focus on YOU. Just because people graduated from college and are “successful”, does not mean they are happy. I have no doubt that you may actually have a “happier” life than those who “have more” than you. Some of them are always chasing something and that means they are not happy and always wanting more; never satisfied. You can spot these people by noticing what they post on facebook,/instagram. Braggy can mean I need approval and I want to impress others. – Do for yourself and get excited about your future.
Damn i always feel a positive vibe coming from this guy.
thank you so much Mr.Brendon,i love so much you video motivation,i think you are on of the best in the history of motivation…you inspired me
You are a really beautiful person inside out. Thank God to get guidance from such a great person. God bless you always. And the the positive and lively vibes are 😀 makes really happy.
Thanks for “showing up” to “work” and shoot this video! As I’ve commented before in your other videos, you’re awesome, Brendon. Thank you!
