What do wealth inequality, chronic disease, climate change, and the industrialization of agriculture all have in common? The answer is food, and more specifically our food system.
Very few people are able to connect the dots between some of the world’s most pressing issues in a way that lets us see the big picture. My guest on today’s episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy, Mark Bittman, is someone who does exactly that in an effort to achieve a different future for food.
Mark Bittman is the author of thirty acclaimed books, including How to Cook Everything and the #1 New York Times bestseller, VB6: Eat Vegan Before 6:00 to Lose Weight and Restore Your Health… for Good. He was a New York Times columnist for more than two decades and has hosted four TV series, including the Emmy-winning Years of Living Dangerously. He is currently on the faculty of Columbia University and is the editor in chief of the blog The Bittman Project, and his most recent book is Animal, Vegetable, Junk: A History of Food, from Sustainable to Suicidal.

Thanks for the great conversation gentlemen! I’m loving it!
I’m pleased and honored to leave the first comment. 40 seconds after publishing. Heheh
8 mins in and I’m convinced to read the book. Thank you very much for this content.
Government does not want to fix the problem, not at the expense of big companies that run this country.
Let’s all protest, we want real food! Protest until they listen. Our lives matter!
This is what people should be in the streets protesting/rioting over.
@John M so true! I’m ready to get out there.
Food was done better before monocrop colonization spread throughout the world. Inca had over 10000 varieties of potatoes, puebloian cultures had innumerable types of maize. A good food system builds soil, it’s that simple.
Wow I love you both. Thank you for this video.
Anyone notice the flora spring commercial during this lol?! Um that is the wrong commercial for this video.
Vertical farming should replace a big portion of traditional farming You can harvest weekly and the size of a closet can yield 60 trays of sprouts monthly. Water saving can go up to 95% and is indoor labor.
Land should be used mostly for fruits, olive, avocado and some veggies like squash and carrots. Cereals are overated anyway.
Thanks
