It’s easier than ever to get out of sync with the natural rhythms of our bodies. However, keeping our internal “clock” in rhythm is a vital component of our health and well-being. If you’ve ever experienced jet lag or pulled an all-nighter, you know just how off you can feel. When your biological and circadian rhythms become unbalanced, so does your health, and you feel it.
In this episode, Dr. Hyman speaks with Dr. Todd LePine about the importance of keeping our circadian rhythm in sync. They also discuss how they work with patients to restore the body’s natural rhythm.
Dr. LePine graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, specializing in Integrative Functional Medicine. He is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner. Prior to joining The UltraWellness Center, he worked as a physician at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA, for 10 years. Dr. LePine’s focus at The UltraWellness Center is to help his patients achieve optimal health and vitality by restoring the natural balance to both the mind and the body. His areas of interest include optimal aging, bio-detoxification, functional gastrointestinal health, systemic inflammation, autoimmune disorders and the neurobiology of mood and cognitive disorders. Dr. LePine teaches around the world, and has given lectures to doctors and patients at American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM), Age Management Medicine Group (AMMG), the University of Miami Integrative Medicine Conference, The Kripalu Center in Lenox, MA, and is on the faculty for American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). Dr. LePine is the head of the Scientific Advisory Board for Designs for Health and a consultant for Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory. He enjoys skiing, kayaking, hiking, camping and golfing in the beautiful Berkshires, and is a fitness enthusiast.

Thanks for another great conversation. Thisnis the first time that I have heard about adenosine contributing to sleep. It makes so much sense! I love learning for you guys!
Nice beard!
Wonderful info. Thank you so very much. Please share more doctors. God bless you..
Whatever you are doing is Looking good on you, shows in your Eyes~!!!
It’s a shame that shift work ruins our health, though this is a reminder that we still need self respect in the end – ”someone else can do the shift work now” 🙂
After 36 years working as a paramedic, I know all about the effects of sleep dysrhythmia on my health. I got away with it for many years but I really feel it now. I still have a few years to go so I now I put more importance on my sleep on the days when I am not on shift. Melatonin does help.
Thank you, doctors This is exactly a small town doctor treated patients and he is now 91 year old. He rarely misdiagnosed a disease.
I crave being outside. If I’m outside I dont want to go inside . I use yard things to side track from other things. Thank you for your insite.
I am a night owl. I’ve tried all of the good advice to get my rhythm to change, but I only end up tired and miserable.
I’ll turn down my thermostat to 66° at night. I started sleeping well after I put a one hundred dollar 8 inch air mattress on my bed. Keeps me very cool at night.
The info on sleeplessness was very helpful. Thanks!!
This was an excellent discussion about our circadian rhythm and how it pertains to overall health by Dr. Hyman and Dr. LePine. I learned a lot from listening to them and want to thank them for such helpful information!
