Why Low Fat Is Important

Kristina Carrillo-Bucaram of Rawfully Organic and FullyRaw explains Why Low Fat is Important, and she shares with you 3 EASY Tips to help you avoid eating too much fat.

A Few Notes:

• Fats are GOOD, but only certain types of fat and not in excessive amounts
• A high fat diet, whether you are cooked or raw, is not healthy
• High fat consumption is the #1 reason why so many fail at the raw diet.
• While many think that sugar is the culprit to Candida, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, or even cancer, I will argue that fat creates a more negative affect on our bodies than any source of sugar.

High Fat in Cooked Foods:
• Americans typically consume 1/3 of their calories from fat.
• For those that consume fast food sporadically (not daily), their fat intake is around 45%. (Please reference 80/10/10 by Dr. Douglas Graham).
• Meats, grains, and other starchy foods contain higher fat than is healthful.
• Not always visible, deceiving to the eye.
• Be aware of what you are eating.
• A little goes a long way.

How much do we need?
• I recommend no more than 10%, however, less is best in this case.
• Point is that too many Americans eat a high fat diet. If we can reduce that, we drastically change the health of millions!

How to avoid eating High Amounts of Fat:

1) Eat More Fruit (You eat FAT b/c you want to feel satisfied and to feel heavier). Fruits is higher in vitamins and minerals without the fat, and it fuels your body to keep you functioning properly. If your body is a car, then fruit is your fuel. Keep it running!

2) Avoid oils and other packaged fats. If you are going to eat them, eat nuts and seeds or softer fats in their natural forms rather than in oil or packaged forms. A good rule of thumb is to not eat more than a handful each day or every few days.

3) Don't keep it in your house! If it's there, you are more likely to eat it! Stock up on fruits and veggies and make life simple and creative!

  1. As a vegetarian I support Kristina because living raw and incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet is excellent for health.. HOWEVER, good fat from plants and nuts are also excellent for overall health and even prevent certain cancers, support the heart, immune system and brain health as well as being good for the skin, ect. Raw whole grains in moderation are very nutritionally beneficial for the body as well and I highly doubt that fat (esp. the good fats ) are the main cause for the development of candida.
Kristina I love you & I love your recipes ( they’re amazing ) but I had to thumb down this video because you are giving out false information. The diet of (especially) a vegan / vegetarian or any raw foodist NEEDS raw grains and beneficial fats more than ever for a well rounded balanced diet.

  2. This is the most asinine, scientifically inaccurate sales pitch I have ever heard. In fact the only reason why I watched it was to see how DH Kiefer chose to take this BS to pieces.

Running + lowfat vegan diet = ill looking individuals.

Do not listen to this woman you will become ill and frail!

  3. This proves nothing.. All she said was that fat is high in calories. We all know that, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad for you. Fat is brain food. Healthy fats make me feel amazing and I eat more than 10% of them a day. Please give more info regarding how fat harms the body. Yes, too much isn’t good but too much of anything isn’t good. Healthy fat (nuts, avocado, olive oil, etc.) is essential for life and longevity and that’s scientifically proven. They ate tons of fat in the old days and were much healthier than we are now!!

  4. What she is saying is incorrect. The amount of fat you can eat depends on many factors ranging from genetics to lifestyle. Furthermore, which season of the year and the climate you are in are other factors that determine which nutrients are necessary. There are so many variables to consider that to make the claims that are being presented here is an oversimplification of what is an otherwise rather complex issue. There is no one size fits all diet that is appropriate for everyone. Some people thrive on high fat diets and others do better on low fat. We need only look to various societies around the world and how their ancestral diets vary and are suited to their genetics.

  5. Well, I think everyone is pretty much in agreement. You are spreading information via you tube that is in fact, not fact. For example, Candida has nothing to do with fat consumptions, candida feeds on sugar and basically sugar from simple carbs rather than complex carbs. Fruits and veggies are great and you are right, we should eat more of them.
However, how could I possibly believe anything you say when you can look at the nutrition facts on an actual bottle of olive oil and say that there are 120 calories in TWO tbsp. of olive oil. In fact, that would be 240 calories. Just about all fats, good, bad or indifferent are right at 120 calories. Please, if you are going to pass out information on you tube and present it as fact, be sure it is factual, researched based information.

  6. I had to stop at the “fat causes candida” part… but i tried to watch the whole thing again until I heard her say that starches are high in fat. Starches are literally carbohydrate… 100%. It kind of like saying “this sugar cube is high in fat”.

  7.  Starches and grains have roughly 2% of calories from fat. Doug Grahams objections to starches are due to the intestinal irritation they can cause, not their fat content.

  8. I know her heart is in the right place, but she shouldn’t be giving out this sort of info without having the credentials to do so. I’m all for raw eating, but proper fat is extremely important for brain function

  9. Sugar is the culprit for most diseases ! And really ? Candida is a bacterial gut infection that is caused by sugar!!! Ugh all this misleading information drives me crazy

    • +Jackie QB If you agree with me that you can get complete protein from plant foods then I would agree.
Do you have some great article about negative effects of sugars? I am sugar addict and I eat too much of fruit and raw sugar to my liking.

    • That’s true, but fructose is a special kind of sugar. It’s much differently processed in the body than processed sugars and passed through the body so fast it does not raise blood sugar – so long as you are eating low fat, or it is transported through the body much slower and thus will cause high blood sugar, inflammation and every disease as you have stated.

    • Jackie QB “ugh” dude, candida is a yeast which is naturally in your body, the infection happens when it grows too much and that is caused by lack of probiotics who are “eating sugar ” so candida can’t.

  10. When I started tracking my nutrition I was eating almost 35% fat, most of this was recipes from websites that just added oil to everything. I still eat 1-1.5 oz of nuts a day, and I’ve levelled out around 17% fat, my goal is under 20.

It is amazing how much your skin and hair changes when you get rid of the excess fat, you don’t need to wash as much, your hair feels silky all the time, this is how things should be.

  11. It’s refreshing to see an old video of you again. You come across more genuine. The videos of the last years are too produced/too acted for my taste. This is a great delivery of very useful info. Thank you.

  12. In the description you said starchy foods are fatty??? Pasta, potatoes, rice are starchy and not high in fat at all. The fat ratio for them is like 5% from fats. I’m confused… Many hclf vegans eat those foods and are lean

  13. It’s perfectly healthy to eat a full avocado per day… it’s been proven by raw vegan nutritionists like Kimberly Snyder
