Very nice
gosh i love your feet
Kino, your words of kindness in the beginning touched my heart. I was always cautious not to push my body to the point where my breath was short, but that’s not the way I have seen postures being taught in what used to be my shala. The teacher would force my body into shapes that brought me to tears and elicit a panic type response.
I’m talking things like he would push me to touch my feet in kapotasana when I couldn’t come up from a backbend, or he would hold my foot behind my head for 25 (!!!) breaths turning my breath into a sob (I’m talking about eka pada sirsasana, and note that I have never clasped in supta kurmasana).
I finally left that place when he started to humiliate me in front of everyone in the classroom shouting that I’ve been there for years and never learned anything.
I don’t k ow how things are in the ashtanga world but this experience has ruined it for me. I’m really glad to hear that a teacher as accomplished as you supports a slow paced and self compassionate practice.
I am so sorry for your hurtful and traumatizing experience. I offer you my prayers of healing. We need to protect students from this type of abuse in the yoga room.
Nice mam
Thank you so much for continuing to emphasize that this is not a competition and to not push yourself too much too soon… you say it in a very kind and inviting way. Easy to incorporate and remember. There are many former athletes out here and it’s hard to change our engrained mentality to not push through pain.
