  1. Learning this in my YTT Anusara inspired certification. Its freaking hard to apply on your own body without assistance… but seeing it helps… that’s why I love your channel!!!! (I noticed the student’s hands were not placed shoulder width though… how I am learning, is to align the middle finger with the outside of the shoulder), I feel this helps widen the back for a soft heart forward.

  2. Hi Kino, I can’t tell you how much you videos help me with my own class. I always have trouble with my students not having a nice long flat back. They are always so rounded in the shoulder/ upper back, and every time I try to get them in to a good alignment they bend there elbows. So this is going to really help me help them. Thanks

  3. Hi Kino, thanks for the tip. I do assist in student turning their upper arms up. But with the palms pressed firm on the mat (lower arm static), rotating the upper arms up will require of flexibility in the twist on the arms and some of my students just don’t have that. (unless like in the video you keep your adjustment on them). What do i do in that case?

  4. Hi Kino! I love your videos! I’ve been having some trouble with opening my shoulders, in postures like gomukhasana or even in urdvha hastasana I experience a lot of pain . Any tip for shoulder and chest opening? Thanks!

  5. Hi Kino,

I have hyperextended elbows that are now (after a year of Ashtanga) causing me recuring pain during plank, chataranga and downward facing dog. One teacher told me to roll my arms inwards to create a straighter line from my wrist to my shoulder, but when I do that I find I can no longer roll my shoulders out during downward facing dog without my elbows hyperextending! Any suggestions? Thank you!

  6. Hey there. Please clarify for me the following: I have been doing it and teaching it as you have instructed it for many years. Now I have found out that I have calcification tendonitis in shoulders, probably supra spinatus. Learning with Judith Hansen Lasater, I have learned that we should actually be doing exactly the opposite, rotating the upper arms in and allowing the shoulders to come towards the ears. Explanation to that is that arm and shoulders are actually a unit. So when raising arm up to ceiling shoulder blade should follow in order not to cause impingement. This is the same action in AMS. Please clarify. many thanks and much love.
