How pesticides are tested with liquid chromatography and mass spec instruments

If you've ever wanted to know exactly how pesticides and other food contaminants are tested in the laboratory, you'll want to watch this video.

In a six-minute video, I explain how liquid chromatography works in combination with mass spectrometry to detect and quantify targeted molecules such as pesticides. This same technique can also be used to detect hormone disruptors, plasticizer chemicals and many other chemicals.

The liquid chromatography separates chemicals by time, where the mass spectrometry instrument identifies molecules by mass. Every molecule, of course, has a specific mass that's derived by adding up the individual masses of the elements found in the molecule.

I filmed this video at CWC Labs, and as you'll see, we're currently running both a "single quad" mass spec instrument and a mass spec time-of-flight instrument, both connected to their own "LC stacks" (liquid chromatography front-ends).

  1. If Earth were spherical, the horizon would remain fixed as you ascended. You would need to look down at an increasing angle if you wanted to keep the horizon within your field of vision — yet, this is not what we observe in reality. This can be verified with AutoCad. 

    Secondly, can you tell me by which means a gyroscope in an altitude indicator accounts and corrects for the curve of the earth? A plane must continually nose downward to maintain its altitude as it travels over the curve of earth, right? So how does the gyroscope account for this? Don’t feel bad if you cannot answer my question. Not even the manufacturers of these instruments can.

  2. Nice one! I used to live in the countryside near a lot of apple orchards. I have seen these farmers use anything from hormones (to make the apples grow big ) to antibiotics and heaps of pesticides. That particular farmer sprayed over 700x a year his orchards. And that is all what a lot of people eat.. a mix of pesticides, a snotload of hormones and other crap. Then people wonder why they are getting sick/getting cancer..

Health Ranger have you checked out General Mills cereal Lucky Charms Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Cheerios they have tsp in them why are they not being charged with poisoning children and adults who eat the cereals where is the FDA at on this s*** time to liquidate them along with the FBI the IRS I think we need to liquidate All three-letter federal agencies and start new God bless stay safe long live the republic wake up America stand up and rise up there poison your kids and you’re feeding it to them before they go to school oh my God

    • For what purposes do you think most three-letter agencies (what does the word agency mean?) and “associations” was concocted in the first place?
