Nobody is going to want gold or silver in this situation. It’s just as worthless as cash, as anybody will be buying and spending things. It will be too chaotic for that.
I think in the chaos at first people wont care about precious metals but once it settles down a bit gold and silver will be valuable again. Precious metals have always been worth something even before tech.
Gold and silver are not just shiny metals. They have a lot of medical and electrical uses.

Garry Farmer Good question. I have pondered this question alot. I have derived at the conclusion that in the event of our grid going down…we will be going back to the days of trading and bartering. What ‘thing’ will become the most valuable ? I’d say clean water. All types of gasoline…cuz people are going to need to be able to cook food and build fires for heat. Lighting? Candles? Lanterns? Medical supplies ,medicines. People will be trading ‘stuff’…value of any given item will be determined by actual need. ‘Wants’ will go out the window. Food. Toilet paper. Soap. Money and coins will be completely worthless (IMO…which means nothing….this is just my take on it) as none of those things will supply you with an ACTUAL need. So one has to really determine for ones own self as to what they are actually going to NEED in such a scenario.People who are sick will need medication. It is speculated that 905 of the population would die in the first year ,if this were to actually happen. IMO, it’s best to stock up…if one were going to ‘prep’ for such an event…all those day to day things we take for granted. Clean water,food,heat,personal hygiene items., cleaning supplies,first aid/ medical supplies, antibacterial protection, how do you protect yourself from rashes,worms,bee stings etc…. what if you can’t ‘go to the doctor’ to address your ailments? It’s alot to think about…. an overwhelming amount of things to consider. IMO (which again, means nothing) ‘coins’ may come to be of value maybe after the first year or two that such an event happens….but at the initial onset of it all…until people came to adapt to the new norm…I feel they’d be completely worthless. If anyone came and offered me a silver or gold coin for some of my food supply and I’m out of water … that ‘coin’ is of zero value to me. When a group of people comes to your house in search of basic humans needs and they have guns…. they’re just going to take you out and claim what you had. It will be a flat out fight for survival. Best thing to do… prepare to HIDE for as long as possible…cuz if it actually ever happens…it will be complete chaos.
All that coin will be good for is to bribe the Chinese troops when they come to maybe not kill you while they loot your home.

Sure, build a Faraday Cage. I doubt GPS will work though because they don’t use satellite direct to your device, they use cell towers. We know this because GPS does Not work over oceans and they should if it worked like they tell us. I don’t Prep. I have off grid wilderness survival skills. This is all you need. An EMP Weapon. Detonated at any level will only effect locally not nation wide nor continent wide. The where amplitude cannot propagate much more than 30e in diameter. Barring any detonation over 15 Mgtons an EmP is of little overal concern
