From loading peanuts to non reusable coffee cups, each year the US alone produces some 2 billion pounds of Styrofoam– none of which can be recycled. Irritated by this waste of resources and garbage dump area, Ashton Cofer and his science fair colleagues established a heating treatment to break down used Styrofoam into something beneficial. Have a look at their original design, which won both the FIRST LEGO League Global Development Award and the Scientific American Innovator Award from Google Science Fair.
