What is a border? It's a line on a map, a place where cultures mix and merge in beautiful, sometimes violent and occasionally ridiculous ways. And a border wall? An overly simplistic response to that complexity, says architect Ronald Rael. In a moving, visual talk, Rael reimagines the physical barrier that divides the United States and Mexico — sharing satirical, serious works of art inspired by the borderlands and showing us the border we don't see in the news. "There are not two sides defined by a wall. This is one landscape, divided," Rael says.

Does it count if I build a wall in Minecraft
You should be banned from the game for bigotry
It’s a thought exercise! Some people in the comments are taking everything too seriously…
Welcome to the internet you must be new here.
Thought exercise?? He’s pushing for normalization of a wall. That’ll lead to more consequences. You can’t try to put in fun without taking into account all the people with terrible intentions. The real world is a violent one, not this fantasy he dabbled on.
Doors and locks are BAD !
They keep nice folks away from your selfish refrigerator.
My poor refrigerator 🙁

I bet this guy lives within 4 walls.
You’re comparing a border wall to a shelter?
I noticed that his buildings that he designed had walls too…maybe thats to keep thiefs from stealing stuff??? I bet i can shoot a canon through his windows though and still be able to get in…stupid stupid walls…
Which means USA is going to miss at least 3 more walls. What about a roof? Maybe then finally all 327 million feel safe cause they all love and trust each other like a real big happy family.
And has keys
Oh wait it’s TED, so implants for security purposes
mhtinla > I bet this guy lives within 4 walls.
Not the same thing; that’s a deficiency of the English language for not having separate words. ¬_¬
Caesar Chavez was against illegal immigration. You fought for better wages for legal immigrants that came to work at in the US.
Just imagine what we could imagine….and while you are doing that we will be building a wall!
no spanish subtitles that’s sad
LOL because this talk is for those who feel guilty about the wall.
Sure ReUnite them by going thru the legal process as all of our families had to do!! Umm this guy must have forgotten Ellis Island and how our families were vetted
Probably forgot that most families don’t want to reunite with their kid for the sake of having their kid stay in america with a family member here or even in a foster home and unite later when the child can get their parents papers a few years later.
Genial
These delightfully imaginative ideas made me smile! What if, indeed, borders were designed as places where different cultures meet and mix. Like, shopping malls and various public places. Instead, they’re often desolate places with very little infrastructure. I think there’s a missed business opportunity right there. 🙂

Nice to hear something about border walls that actually gets you in a better mood :’)
I love how he used his almost unrelated expertise to still foster societal progress on this issue.
Put Solar Panels on the wall and it will pay for itself while saving the world
Someone needs to step up and do something about mexicos criminals and have the US buy mexico as a territory. Send the military in to clean house.
Have fun. When you get to the border dont forget to bring water.
Mexico’s criminals are criminals because they supply the drugs that Americans want so badly. The US needs to clean its own house and Mexico’s house would get cleaned as a side-effect. ¬_¬
Might have a hard time on the barred up border houses.
Sounds like someone wants to make a name for himself- if the United States is the great escape for the Mexicans, maybe they should keep their problems below the border, right?
this is dumb… we need to abandon the idea of borders… treat countries the same way we treet states, or cities, or neighbor hoods, so we can travel freeley, like were supposed to.
But then how would politicians hoard money and power for themselves? Politicians need separatism to be able to retain their lifestyles.
Child separation is because of illegal entry
