I would suggest “making ourselves inferior” is a bit awkwardly worded, we haven’t necessarily been modifying ourselves to be lesser than the tech we make. But, you’re right in that we haven’t been making tech that would enhance ourselves (beyond prosthetics and those are for a specific population).
And maybe not, if we can program emotions then we can logically program which emotions we’d want them to have. Assuming there is a distinction between certain concepts like pride and completing a task.

I don’t think we’ll ever get computers to fully understand us because we don’t fully understand ourselves. The human psyche is incredibly elusive and complex. A lot of it is still under debate. I just don’t see any successful AI in the near future
Simone Bonaparte while it would be difficult I don’t see it as being impossible. Machine learning is an amazing thing and continues to grow faster every day. the ai might eventually understand us better than we ever could.

I see a lot of hateful comments so I’ll put in a nice one. AI seems like a ridiculous thing on paper for a lot of people. “how could an AI ever understand human emotions, or become like us?” what is the human mind but an incredibly complex organic machine? to say that machines can never replicate what we do is absurd. putting religion aside for a second, our biology is strictly physical. perhaps emotions have an aspect of spiritualism to them, but how will we know if we don’t try? Trying to replicate humanity in AI could lead us to a scientific understanding of ourselves even if the AI fails to accomplish what it wanted. If it succeeds or fails we stand to gain something.

We shouldn’t do this. Don’t let computers get advanced enough to talk to us and be as good as us. We don’t need AI to get any further as it’s gone too far already. If you have an Alexa, google home, or Apple HomePod, your privacy is already being invaded by these companies and the government. They record, store, and analyze everything.

Computers cannot “understand”. They just organize electrons in specific ways that are useful only after human interpretation. To use a specific example, computers can identify characteristics and classify basic emotions for us and in the future they will classify more complex emotions based on brain waves and behaviors, but they cannot “feel” any of it.
Do not mistake classification and prediction for understanding.
Following that reasoning humans can’t “understand” either since they just adjust synapses in their brain.

You’re more making an assumption based on current technology. Just because they cannot “understand” now, doesn’t mean they cannot at all.
What is the difference between identification and understanding? You can understand someone’s feelings, you can identify someone’s feelings and both bring about a similar cognitive idea. I would suggest that the difference would come down to, what to do once you know what that feeling is. And that is were “if, thens” come in.
We should not assume that thinking is something impossible to program, one method of AI creation is called neural networking. And while that is just program, it is based strongly on what happens in our brain. You may be right in saying they cannot feel it, but I would still suggest that’s only a present technological limitation.
We have prosthetics that can give real time haptic feedback, allowing the person to feel whatever the sensation the prosthetic is interpreting. The next step is just creating an AI sufficient and complex enough to interpret.

How can we make AI that can bullshit like people do? The talk asks some interesting questions but they are all inredidbly general. And in the actual projects shown there’s very little ‘AI’ tech to begin with.
