"Co-parenting" isn't a buzzword — it's a way of showing up for your family openly, consistently and lovingly, says storyteller and father Joel Leon. In this moving talk, he challenges all parents to play an equal, active role in their children's daily lives, even in a world that often places the weight of sacrifice on mothers alone. Leon encourages nuanced conversations about parenting and reminds us that being a parent isn't a responsibility — it's an opportunity.

Thank you. All our children need both parents to learn to make healthy relationships work.
First comment from SoBro. This is the sad reality of those that grew up in low income communities. Proud to see someone representing co-parents from #thebronx
OK. It’s too modern for me to be able to comprehend and identify everything he said
All he said is males should be involved in their children’s lives.
This was interesting. Because it’s not a common topic. Thank u for the story
Welcome ni***
It’s as if destroying the family unit was a bad idea.
… said the millie…
Save yourself 9 ½ minutes. All he said is males should be involved in their children’s lives.
A novel concept that been around for millennia.
@R. H. Kingpin sure you can say it may be primarly black men, hispanics, etc. But her comment said “White men are already coparenting” all i was saying is that not all white men co parent, which is true. I understand that is is primarly black people, but this should be a message for EVERYBODY, even the minority of other ethnicities that do not already co parent. That is just my opinion, if you don’t agree that’s fine.
Kind of assumed from the title. Thank you for this saved myself that time.
@D Jackson i was responding to the comment in here that said it should not be general, she stated this video should be targeted for black men because white people already coparent, and sure some of them do, but not all. That was my point to her.
Having male daycare/elementary school teachers is appreciated too.
@Jocelyn Alexandra – That’s the kind of thinking that keeps problems from being solved. For example, if you were a teacher and 4 students were acting out, would you punish the whole class for the actions of those 4? The rational response to that hypothetical is of course not, the irrational response is “they are all (a sub-group of) students so they should all learn the lesson that the 4 need.”
Punishing all for the transgressions of the few is always a horrible choice.
► Repeating the key point again, Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic, and any other group of males you wish to delineate, all have a majority (more than 50%) being involved in their children’s lives. Only black males have a majority that *do not* adequately interact with their offspring.
► This problem (absentee father) is overwhelmingly quantified as a major problem among black males, and the TED lecturer is correct in addressing it proportionately.

Thanks for such kind of story,
We’re really thankful to you.
Co-parenting is the best option in a WORST case scenario of having children out of a relationship or marriage. It is just a positive phrase rather than ‘baby -daddy’ / sperm donor etc for singles.
My comment is not intended to be racist because it applies to all species of the human race. Young women, set you standards. If your boo is not willing to commit he is not worth you separating your knees. As for men, guys come on, first think with the head on your shoulders and not the other one. RESPONSIBILITY may sound old fashioned, but it works. Excellent presentation and TED Talk. Let’s be positive examples. Best wishes to you, Joel Leon.
So…parenting

Let’s be real if this is a white guy, people would be like “wtf is this a joke?” This whole Ted Talk is only novel because its a black man talking about parenting, which is like it or not, notoriously uncommon. This unintentionally reinforces the stereotype of black men not staying with their kids.
Love the expression “being a parent isn’t a responsibility it’s an opportunity”
