Conventional vaccine testing is a slow, years-long process. As thousands of people continue to die each day from COVID-19, bioethicist Nir Eyal proposes a radical idea that could dramatically accelerate the vaccine development timeline: "human challenge trials," in which scientists would deliberately expose volunteers to the virus to more quickly determine a vaccine's efficacy. (This virtual conversation, hosted by head of TED Chris Anderson, was recorded June 15, 2020.)

The least at-risk groups are also by far the most asymptomatic.
The most at risk should be offered trial participation opportunity based upon comparative harm analyses.
There were at least 25K new cases identified in Florida this weekend. We now know with near certainty that our elderly are going to be exposed. There is no value to a vaccine unless it offers these ones some protection.
I see. The title is made to be misleading. He’s just saying that we should control the human experimentation better for testing the vaccines. We’re going to see people exposed on purpose for testing the vaccines, just that by controlling the exposure we’re going to improve the testing. That is, the experiments will be safer for the participants and the findings will be more accurate. It’s not controversial, just sounds bad when you put it in a way that sounds bad.

This, although I wouldn’t do it still. But it shouldn’t be unpaid position to take such a large risk. Perhaps a stake in the medication/vaccine profits that comes from the studies? Why is human capital not deserving of the same as other capital?

Reposting: Compensating people brings up another dilemma. The volunteers would either have to be income bracketed, or desperate, which for the desperate that may be their only payment and would have no recourse. Income bracketed makes the appearance of social superiority in assisting more privileged people first. It’s a fine line but no compensation means you have people that genuinely want to assist.
It’s creates a whole lot of ethical problems by paying people.

The “Spanish flu” was caused by an excessive amount of electricity as bodies tried to regulate it, as cities started roping electricity throughout. It’s RADIATION POISONING. Ps. Quarantining only weakens everyone’s immune systems as does wearing a face covering. It would be like covering your muffler on your car and putting a hose from there into your intake. Try that and see how long it takes your car to die.

I would definitely agree to this test. I work in the front lines in healthcare, I am in my 20s, I live in a city with an international airport meaning I likely will be infected at some point, and I have been volunteering for years doing stuff for others comes second nature to me. This is something I would sign up for in a heartbeat.
