Don’t multitask, be present and in the moment
Don’t pontificate, if you want to state your opinion without any opportunity for, argument, pushback or response. Write a blog
Use open ended questions: who what where when how
Not: Are you terrified? Try asking what was that like instead because then they have to stop for a moment and think and you’ll get a much more interesting response
Go with the flow, whatever thought comes to mind let it out
If you don’t know tell them, talk shouldn’t be cheap. Err on the side of caution
Don’t equate your experience with theirs. Conversations are not a promotional opportunity, it’s not about you. Every experience is individual, it’s never the same.
Don’t repeat yourself it’s condescending and boring and we tend to do it a lot.
Stay out of the weeds, people don’t care about the details you struggle to come up with in your mind. The year, names, dates. They care about you.
Listen. Buddha said, if your mouth is open you’re not learning. It takes patience and effort to pay attention and listen to someone, but if you can’t do that you’re just two people shouting out barely related sentences in the same place.
Be brief. Be interested in other people. My mouth is shut most of the time and my mind is open, I’m prepared to be amazed.

I watched Celeste when the video first came out. I teared and I learnt.
One of the best Ted talks I’ve seen on here. Now if we could only get everyone in our country to follow these tips, our country would be in MUCH better shape.
Too bad I didn’t hear this video 15 years ago. Well, never late then never. Gloria Steinem said, “Talk as much as you listen and listen as much as you talk.” That was the best advice I heard.
