Why does modern technology promise efficiency, but leave us constantly feeling pressed for time? Anthropologist Kathryn Bouskill explores the paradoxes of living in a fast-paced society and explains why we need to reconsider the importance of slowing down in a world that demands go, go, go.

Great video! What impressed you the most?
Someone who took my late night thoughts and made a TED talk. Amazing job and I love her calming voice.
I have been thinking about it for a long time now 🙂 The more tasks we have, the less time we have to do anything thoughtfully. Feel the taste of a task. Going into forest usually helps to slow down… However when I swim in icy waters in a lake deep in the forest I am usually fast in my decision to jump out of it before I freeze 🙂
A couple of years back I read somewhere that faster the changes in our surroundings, more anxious and depressed we’ll be. And now I really feel it’s true.
Please provide the evidence for this claim
It’s evident we can see it everywhere
Time keeps on slippin slippin slippin into The future
Edit reality
@John Hillman is there a link here? Idk if I can post one here?
I watched this at 2X speed to be faster
I do that so routinely the irony didn’t even occur to me until I read this.
I have an extension so I can watch faster than x2
I literally am right now.
Do you habitually talk fast?
Ken Belangel playing normal speech at 2x is more tolerable than people who talk fast
This talk brought some sense of comfort and serenity to me, thanks in part as well to the pleasant voice of Dr. Bouskill.
My phone makes banking sooo much easier. Find a date? That doesn’t work. I don’t get carsick.
I ‘d like to have her script
Where can I get from?
she is our leader:
league of procrastinators
She is not talking about speed in the technical sense…could use someone with training in the nervous system and not an anthropologist. It is basically gibberish and confused.
Daaaaaaam I am procrastinating for my exam by watching this.
same.
I’ll watch later.
FOCUS on not IMPEDING rather than SPEEDING… it’s totally a different concept.
Her voice sounds like a digital assistant.
This is so true and relevant to many of us
She sounds one of those women speaking through a loudspeaker in a public place in the dystopian future we are heading for.
Screw that! Speed is the key! I got 1 gear, I got 1 lane! GO!
I am interested to know what you provide us
pradip shrestha what do you provide us? What do I provide? Can we ever really make any judgement to ones provisions?
That’s not likely a human giving this speech.
Weirdest ted talk ever!
I have said this for years life isn’t really becoming easier just more complicated more bureaucracy bullshit paperwork when we are all on our deathbeds are we really going to care about any of that.
