Speaking from Hong Kong, South China Morning Post CEO Gary Liu tracks China's response to the coronavirus pandemic — from the initial outbreak in Wuhan to the shutdown of Hubei province and the containment measures taken across its major cities. Sharing insights into how the culture in places like Hong Kong and South Korea contributed to fast action against the virus, Liu identifies lessons people across the world can take to stop its spread. (This virtual conversation is part of the TED Connects series, hosted by head of TED Chris Anderson and current affairs curator Whitney Pennington Rodgers. Recorded March 25, 2020)

  1. The lesson here is cover it up for months and silence doctors instead of containing it before the entire world is affected. Yeah good job.

    • That’s precisely what the video is about…the title of this video should have been “What the world can learn from China’s MISTAKE” but obviously TED fked up the title and now they are getting slammed for it by the people who don’t even bother watching the video.

  2. After all, you were already prepared, with the projects, ordering the equipment, hiring the labor, the water and sewage network, the prefabricated building materials and stocked in an impressive volume.

    4. Cause chaos in the world, starting with Europe.

  3. If this headline was changed to “How China messed up, then got their act together with the Covid response” whilst keeping the video the same, it would get a completely different reaction

    • Because they trying to change the image of china. They want our freedom states to be like theirs with all the surveillance and privacy invasions.

    • No it wouldnt, it would still have people rightly pointing out that this is Chinas fault and they need to be blamed and shamed for it. Only a idiot would think otherwise.

      * CCP Reprimands and silences Dr Wenliang – the whistleblower for COVID-19 – for “spreading rumours” and refusing to immediately act to avoid short-term economic damage, leading to massive economic damages and the deaths of potential thousands globally.

      Quite the “mess-up”.

  4. Dont weld citizens in their homes, dont arrest the doctors warning of a pandemic before adressing their concerns, dont censor text photos and videos of the pandemic off the internet, dont harvest political prisoners and ethnic minoraties for organs.

Dont do any of those things and you should be fine.

  5. Whoever stopped the announcement of this virus should be in prison for life, no parole. Absolutely disgusting human behaviour.

  6. So what I learned: the effort needs to be led by health experts, not politicians or government officials. When Zhong Nan Shan spoke up, China started the mitigation.

    • Sarah Huang the media and politicians always know best, that is why we listen to them on every topic. Let’s not forget Hollywood is a wealth of knowledge should you need a third opinion. If we start listening to experts now, people may expect us to do the same on other topics.

    • wow ……..Ignorance is terrible …i am never think this channel have someone like u .(no independent thinking ability )..3month my dear trump is still try to hide this information still push our go to work and would rather spend 2 or 5 trillion to save the stocks than to spend 400 more ventilators to save us ..what a great government

    • omg u are japanese now i kown why ::::::;toyokawa city ,ahichi prefecture ,japan supported 4.500 masks .to wuxi china. now with the development of the japanese epidemic ,toyokawa has to ask wuxi give back .and next day wuxi send it back 50.000 masks ..it is on march 24 u can check it on news …hehehhe

  7. This video is the result of the ruling class thinking that the ruled are idiots. Feed them anything and they’ll believe it. Absolutely pathetic.

    • Okay. So how do you explain that the US government kept telling people this is a flu-like disease in the first place even after they’ve seen what happens in Asia and people believe it? Imao this is what you’re referring ‘the ruling class thinking that the rules are idiots’

  8. Google or YouTube “Problem Reaction Solution.” And Keep Calm, or their “solution” will become a much bigger problem.
