Hadoop Sd Just thinking aloud here, but what if the US needs to get oil independent and free from the need for cheap oil from Saudi Arabia. I know Luke said that there were reserves and that the US is the biggest oil producer, but what if it’s not enough yet? What if they need to unknit the current system completely? If the Saudis decided to stop using the petro-dollar and the others did the same, it would impact the US and the western world as a whole in a massive way. The dept would make the dollar worthless, the economy wouldn’t just take a hit, it would be destroyed. It would be cataclysmic, on the scale that the preppers/survivalists talk about.
This US president didn’t create the system this way, nor did the last, but they helped to keep it perpetuating. So although everyone should admit that Saudi Arabia is an evil in the world and has to pay for their crimes, maybe it’s a long game if you don’t want to be taken down with them. Some distancing would be nice to see, but the old saying ”keep your friends close and your enemies closer” may apply here.
For all we know plans are afoot. That’s not to say you shouldn’t be calling out for change, but that change might already be being worked on. 10 years ago the US wasn’t in the position it’s in now with oil, so maybe these changes you can see are part of the moves its making. Don’t lose heart.

We made a faustian bargain with the Saudis in the 1970s and now have each other by the balls. It’s the relationship that the petrodollar system rests on. I’m not happy about it, but I don’t know how to get out of it without the complete financial devastation of the US.
+DaBoogie We are ramping up oil production as fast as we can, and it’s not going to be good enough. Look up the YoY depletion rates in fracked wells. It’s atrocious. Eagle Ford has a 75%-80% decline in the first year after a well is fracked. Last I checked, we would lose 500k barrels per day of production in one month if we quit all drilling and fracking today. That tells you how much we have to do just to maintain production, and that’s a dated figure. Our future problems are bigger than most would like to admit.
IMO, we’d be best off developing viable breeder reactors and using that energy to manufacture liquid fuels, and then swapping over to the wide, wide world of regenerative agriculture, which is productive, less energy intensive and better for the environment. People tend to not think about the 10 calories that go into producing, shipping and storing every one calorie of food that we get in the modern system, and a lot of that comes from oil. If we can remain mobile, fed and clothed, we can survive the shock that the end of the petrodollar will hit us with. If not, watch out.

1. Escape from U.S. taxation.
2. Lower labor costs.
However China’s time is about up. American companies and international companies who wish to restart mfg. in the U.S. can now get a labor cost reset, by skirting unions, and tax fees are lower as well.
One point I always make about mfg in China and selling in U.S. is environmental impact. There are always alternatives to the products they sell, for example many locations have local soda makers. Here in Allentown, PA I could buy “A-treat” soda, if I drank soda. I don’t have to buy Coke or Pepsi. I could write a book on this topic, but it all boils done to this: The only way to bring real, honest, and good change is for consumers to change their behavior. If they/we shopped for locally produced goods especially foods there would be NO need for plastic packaging which is the largest offender to the environment there is.

We were told that fuel would be cheaper doing this and all the refineries were closed.
The same outcome was achieved with electricity, sold offshore with promises of cheaper and more efficient supply.
