A 24-hour helpline in the UK known as Samaritans helped Sophie Andrews become a survivor of abuse rather than a victim. Now she's paying the favor back as the founder of The Silver Line, a helpline that supports lonely and isolated older people. In a powerful, personal talk, she shares why the simple act of listening (instead of giving advice) is often the best way to help someone in need.

You’ve deflowered the virgin, and now must marry it. Word travels fast, and great shame will fall upon the family. If you refuse, honour killing will result. No man of dignity will wife up your sloppy seconds. He will always question whether any future offspring will be his own seed. This should not be taken lightly.

Listening – the power God gives to human :0
Xin chào đồng đội.^^
My DOG listens better than GOD.
Since God exists in your mind, if God is not listening to you, it basically means you are not listening to yourself.
St S That explains why so many mental patients keep talking with themselves.
mhtinla Saying to God is just the way to describe my mind to my beloved someone who just hear without action…at least someone knows my mind & I am not lonely myself.
This woman needs to hold her head up! She has done more with this talk alone than most do in a lifetime.
We have all done wrong but she is not that person anymore, nor am I.
Be proud, be strong and continue to lead those that will listen.
AND listen to those who have a need to talk. Funny how sometimes it’s all that helps.
A catcher is someone extremely important. He/she doesn’t have to say much, but just by listening, they can change your life completely. I was lucky to have the right people at the exact time I needed to be saved. It has changed my views, and helped me move on. Good luck, and thanks for the hard work! I hope the call line can help as many as possible.
Is there anything like Samaritans in the U.S.??
xxWayoftheSunxx, I think you’re right, and that can present even more problems.
Mike Heckathorn, I’ve heard of the “crisis hotline”. Not sure what exactly they’re supposed to be about. I’m looking for help with grief from losing my son, my only child.
Commenting on YouTube is highly therapeutic too.
I think there might be a support group on Facebook. I use to be on one for adiction. But, it was mostly just people talking over each other.
Debra Joy Look for support groups in your area. You can google it. There are help out there. Don’t give up. Good luck!

Amazing, I shall apply this in my life
So true! I love to listen but I don’t always get the same in return
Is there a similar program in the U.S.A.? If so, do you know what it’s called? The Silver Line sounds like a dream come true.
You clearly didn’t understand the talk, did you?
“Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself.”
~ Carl Jung
seems like not having people about one would ensure you can’t communicate what is important to you so surely its both
Yea this is all great and all but according to Dr. House M.D “Everybody lies”
jonathan benge But then again he is a misantrope cynic so there is that
There many good Samaritan out there
Wow she’s great ! I was really surprised how this changed my mood for the better !
True, but the ultimate best way to help is to give perfect knowledge which is in our actual and eternal benefit: http://www.Prabhupadabooks.com
How can you understand another person unless you listen about what he is trying to tell you? We are vailed in our opinions & prejudices already. It is hard enough just to undestand another person’s point of view.
The fact that a person is from an earyier generation may isolate them. They may have had expierances a younger person may find hard to identify with.
what a beautiful woman
