My area was a rust belt town. We threw out the majority of retail stores, big corporations, went local. It’s working! Money is flowing back in! Our population is rising, new houses are being built, it’s an amazing sight.
The old guy is lost. He has faith in a system, that is overwhelmed, and actually based on evil. You cannot “vote the bastards out” because the bastards keep coming back.

It is a little frightening to witness the abysmal logic and reason used in this discussion. Perhaps the debaters should learn the meaning of words. One’s linguistic abilities either limits or increases one’s ability to articulate thought. ”We are dealing with ignorance….?” Look to yourselves first if you possess any personal sovereignty.
Voting solves nothing at all. As Grant Cardone once said, “politics is like Santa Clause and the Easter bunny.” Government is not real. It only exists in people’s minds. If no one believed in so-called authority, the world would be a much better place.

Another point I rarely see, is that voting is already on the blockchain with steem. I believe that is very powerful. The vote is powerful if it’s transparent and global. Very powerful.

if it did nothing, they would not do it either, problem is, what it does is confuse people into giving up their own power, so it does work, but its a terrible thing it does while working, not a good thing, and saying that it does nothing or makes no difference is a lot like claiming someone cant be a murderer, thus, no one will ever look at them when there is a murder, even if they have blood on their hands. ie, it negates how dangerous to our life voting is, making it seem like a harmless practice, thus causing people to let down their guard and end up being controlled by those that gave the illusion of the people being in control.
Twain didn’t say “voting does nothing”. He said “voting makes no difference”. *The Powers That Be* use voting to placate the people; it’s all about bread and circuses. Voting makes no difference to the general population, but keeps the people thinking that they *are* making a difference.
So, yes, your assessment is correct: No difference to the people, but only to benefit those who are voted into power.
When the voting is rigged, when the choices are limited or don’t exist. You don’t have democracy. It’s been going on for 2-3 generations. The question should be, “What new system can we create that we don’t end up back in this mess? Old systems aren’t the answer, we have enough real world results.”
Vercusgames get right with your neighbors. Before we decided we should have authorities we counted on each other to make things right which occasionally meant dealing with difficult scenarios. But community came together as we counted on each other.
Sounds productive against the option of deciding which hired gun should take care of us.
My neighborhood picked up because people got out of despair and started taking action. We’re moving out of our rust belt town status. I’m not sure what you’re getting at? I’m pointing out the current era. Why so many people indifferent.
