If you’re not familiar, the keto diet is essentially 70% fat, with very little carbohydrates and moderate protein. This is a major shift from the low-fat craze, and though it was originally used as a therapeutic diet for epilepsy decades ago, many other health benefits have been discovered since.
Gary Taubes joined me on The Doctor’s Farmacy to talk about why we should steer away from refined starchy carbs, the benefits of the keto diet, and much more.
You can find the full episode titled, “Who Should Eat Keto and Why?” on your favorite podcast app.
We live in a profit driven world and not a health driven world.
The western health system has set the threshold for insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes way too high. If the bar was set where it should be, most of the population would test positive for both and would realise that bread, pasta, breakfast cereals etc are not healthy…the food industry would lose billions, big farmer would lose billions, governments would lose billions.
I hope the next generation of smart watches with glucose monitoring will help open people’s eyes to how unhealthy the food they are eating is, and how easy it is to change.
Famers won’t lose anything, they will grew more keto friendly vegetables and pasture raised animals if people adopted a keto lifestyle.
@Cyril ..unfortunately, these things cost more to sow, grow and harvest. They don’t have the shelf life of grains or are as easily transported. Nothing is as cheap to grow, harvest, transport or store as grains. It is all profit driven.
@Bb Said The fact is that farmers don’t/can’t fund Media, Researchers/studies, promote pro-sugar advertisements or influence food regulations… the food companies can.
@Cyril do you mean anti-sugar?
@Bb Said Farmers don’t sell sugar products, the companies do.
I wish everyone would learn this vital message. Imagine that everyone became aware that insulin resistance drives most health issues and is also inextricably connected to systemic inequities. Then imagine that everyone realized that insulin resistance can be combatted just by omitting refined carbs! That knowledge would change the world. This work is changing the world. Thanks for sharing ❤️
Sir, what are the dark “bags” below your eyes. I’ve not noticed those before.
He is aging quickly in my opinion. I like this doctor a lot but I’m not sure the foods he’s eating is helping him.
Those are scars obtained in the battle of life.
Dark circles can be genetic, as well as the saggy skin. Same as wrinkles, hair loss, etc. If you are going bald for instance, nothing you eat or do will help you. Dark circles are the same. You can have the most perfect sleep and if you are predisposed to this, you will get it.
Starchy foods are cheap and addictive. Blame the *sick priorities of the walking dead consumers* who want their cheap drugs. Big meals and snacks of starchy foods are fulfilling, tasty and cheap. Real food is not so cheap.
Obese people think nothing should stop them from having expensive shoes, cars, professional hair colors, fake nails, doctor visits, surgeries and meds or a big screen telivisions, and fabulous cell phones, etc but they won’t pony up their dollars for fresh real nutritious, food.
Health is not their priority. They actually know better and they constantly feel shame and guilt over it, but they are so addicted they bury their wisdom under a deep, thick layer of denial and self-delusion and go to the store for more boxes of mac’n cheese etc, and breakfast cereals along with chips, dips and cases of coke. And a $4. sugar loaded latte’ from Starbucks on the way home. The “party in the mouth” club gains 1 more pound a week!
Your comment is biased by your privilege and is toxic. Please, check yourself before posting such uncompassionate comment generalizing people you have aboslutely no knowledge about their history or education about healthy diet. The blame is not on obese people on the first place but on a fcking, corropt system that doesnt care and miseducate people.
@Bluescaraab Well said, that was shameful and totally discusting.
Watch Robert Lustig’s Sugar: The Bitter Truth here in YouTube or read Gary Taube’s Why We Get Fat (and what to do about it). You will think about obesity and it’s victims in a much different light.
Comment written by someone who has “Stop 5G Now” in his username. You gotta be kidding me…
Fk, even Bugs Bunny knew this…………………..
Simply no.
A good example is well documented rice Diet created by Walter kempner.
His patients ate mainly white rice, drank fruit juices, and ate extra calories from PURE WHITE SUGAR. Effect? All have lost masive weight, some have recovered from type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, kidney disease etc.
If you dont know how it works – start learning human biochemistry and turn off your keto/paleo/carnivore/vegan/raw vegan guru
I don’t know how maintainable a diet like that would be and I would imagine a diet of white rice, fruit juice and sugar would leave one extremely malnourished over time. Where’s the protein and fat?
does white rice fall under this category?
yep
Big pharma wants to burn this video for heresy.
Modified corn starch and glucose / fructose syrup should burn in hell first..
