Former Republican member of the U.S. Congress Bob Inglis shares an optimistic message about how conservatives can lead on climate change and other pressing problems — and how free enterprise (and working together across ideologies) hold the solutions. "The United States was not built by those who waited and wished to look behind them," Inglis says. "Lead now … Tell the American people that we still have moon shots in us."

We don’t want bipartisan politics. We want the two party system to die!
What two party system there is only one Republican and Republican Lite
No you want the two party system that’s so corrupted that its essentially just the one party system to die. and perhaps if there was more than 2 parties in US this type of corruption wouldnt happen.
Two party system is the best human invention in governance because it pushes the loser to learn from mistakes. Coalitions suffer from deferred responsibility failure. Also, giving unfair power to third parties results in wacky and delusional policies unacceptable for the majority.
watch cgp greys animal kingdom and realise the mistake
Their political system is a mess and they spend every single day on teaching other countries :))
This political system is flawed.
Still better than plain dictatorship tho
You have a dictatorship with heavy frosting on top to look like democracy.
not by much. 0.2% of a country deciding over who gets to “lead” the country sounds like an oligarchy in itself.
I appreciate 1950s Germany having had enough resources allotted to build a better system but understand that America hasn’t lost enough wars to think freely and has no opponents to encourage any such thing if they did.
How about fucking not.
Funny how nobody worried about bipartisan politics until trump and republicans took over. When it was Obama and the democrats everyone apposed should just shut up and get out of their way.
Can wait to watch this, to see if my premonition of what this video is about is correct
Wrong.
People’s been complaining about bipartisanship since forever ago
People wanted bipartisanship during Obama’s presidency too m8.
Well it is true that during Obama everyone was content on TED. Still this is most certainly not the worst TED video. I suggest you to look over the few with social-sounding titles and with women as speakers.
Jason Gaddie you watched the video, you heard him speak, but you did not listen. The man, did not say to give up republican ideals. He clearly stated that on specific issues that are not based on political ideals, just facts, like climate change or economic trends, the representatives of this country have a duty to EDUCATE and LEAD, just as well as represent. Just nodding ones head to a mob whose anger is not based on facts is not helping this country. The founding fathers understood this as well, they know that the general public is too uneducated and fueled by personal beliefs, and on some issues that is dangerous. Also, if u dont remember, bipartisan was also an issue in the obama presidency, there has been government shutdowns as well. The difference now is that the president and most republicans has strayed away from facts on certain issues to please the facade. Nd no i am not a dem/liberal.
Guy at 9:20 ain’t havin’ it. Lol!
Thank you sir. That made my day.
KungFuBlitzKrieg That guy gave all of his f*cks away long ago lol
Yeah, we got moonshots in us, but only in the private sector, a la Elon Musk, not from gov’t.
That was exactly his point. What part of “Free Enterprise” didn’t come across to you clearly, exactly?
Wow! That was great speech! If his actions speak as loud as his words, here’s a Republican I could vote for!
Nah, he’s all talk, no action.
He’s a Republican you CAN’T vote for, because he would have been primaried by some whack-job.
I LOL’d at the sarcasm of the OP.
Can this guy be president for a minute, please?
Isaac The Fallen Apple No, he is completely biased, no objectivity
Rolroorlo It was a poem not a scientific presentation- even bi-partisan politics isn’t just about objectivity.
Graydon Buchleiter, less of a poem more as a rant about what he finds wrong with his own party.
No Isaac, he can’t be president. You can’t be elected in this country unless you have really great hair.
“American bipartisan politics can be saved — here’s how” spends 8 of 10 minutes not talking about that.
Trouble is that politicians that risk their careers in order to lead, tend not to have long careers. Unlike those that risk nothing.
Ted always so biased rooting for liberals no matter what, nice bias, you are as brainwashed as you think the other side is
That’s why they have a Rep rep, right?
Snagabott just because he’s a republican doesn’t mean he’s not a liberal. It’s about ideals, not what hat you’re wearing. I’d say the vast majority of republican party members aren’t conservative in the slightest.
And I would say that the vast majority of republican party members are very conservative and that this man is no exception. As an example: by the standards of much of the world, the idea of actively opposing a state run health care system, or even the state helping out with insurance, would be seen as extremely conservative. I guess that is all down to where you see yourself.
He is literally a Republican.
Business needs to stay out of politics, there should be a limit on the donation amounts of people and business groups to PACs. This country was built for people, not businesses.
Corporations should be BANNED from any kind of political donation in any form either expressed or implied. People should be limited to no more than 5 figures of some description a year.
The title was horribly misleading and has nothing to do with ending partisan politics. Not even a good speech. Thumbs down.
KoreyRB Agreed. I saw him virtually holding a sign that said “Spineless and Proud.” Neither the Right nor the Left have a backbone.
Yes, it sounded more like a politician recruitment speech…
You’re -a conservative- nothing close to a conservative member of congress. You’re a RINO, a Republican In Name Only. You are bowing to far left nonsensical demands that aren’t even close to evidence based. They fudge the numbers in their climate statistics and their gender theories are complete madness. The wage gap is a myth. It is an earnings gap created by the choice of WOMEN to go into different fields of work or to work for less hours. The only way to close it would be to force women into careers that they don’t want, or to pay women the SAME as men regardless of less experience or less hours worked. That is NOT equality.
I have NO interest in uniting with lunatics. We can’t even agree on what reality we live in, much less what ballpark we are in, what game we are playing, and what the rules will be.
You aren’t put into office to lead, you are put there to OBEY the will of the people within the confines of the constitution, at which you obviously failed miserably.
Great speech! It’s a shame that politicians can only be honest once they’re out of office.
“It’s a shame” and yet you don’t mind if they are a lying POS as long as they secretly support your positions. How noble of you.
“If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep it.”
“If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period.”
That is correct, obama was a lying POS.
I think that people pushing the lack of bipartisanship on to one party instead of both is the problem. Some choose to claim that “it’s all the Democrats” or “it’s all the Republicans” even when both parties (which both usually are in my opinion) were in the “wrong. And I know that right or wrong is subjective, but we should recognize when their party was in the wrong, too if we want to achieve true bipartisanship in the US. Although I am opposed to bipartisanship purely because I think that there should be more than one party hence getting rid of Bipartisanship, bipartisanship would be a better state of being if the country than te disorganized mess we have now. Both parties are the problem and how neither side wants to find a middle ground at all it seems at times. Let the last 2 shutdowns be prime examples of that.
Finally some one who makes sense
Don’t just tell them. Show them! VOTE THEM OUT and never allow them back in.
Not sure I could thumbs up this speech for it’s title to content. Some of the words, mostly by great people of the past still make sense and invoke a sense of responsibility that is supposed to reside with “The People”. The issues at hand in the title IMHO, come from people sitting in closed rooms making decisions of party direction and how to achieve their end goals of electing their candidate to do their bidding or that of some other behind the scenes “Party”. Then we allow the Electoral College to make the final decision…none of that feels like bipartisanship for We the People. Then when they are in office being steeped in PAC/party money to write 500-5k page bills that smell of burnt ends and may taste good, but no normal human can connote the long term real effects on the System of We the People, yet somehow manage to get the re-elected because of the media hype of them.
Adams may have been right about Slow and Deliberate, but my modern take would be Provident and Discerning and maybe using a Kaizen approach to problem solving…which is what Kennedy did with the Moon Program in 10 years.
The most tragic thing is the rampant Partisanship in the comments here.
Ethos, logos and pathos…Perhaps some lessons from earlier times could be included to develop some Vision and worthy goals for the Matters At Hand, to strive for as We the People…& maybe not be so distracted by the next i-toy or 140 characters.
Attila the Hun and Gandhi were great persons…for many reasons, but it’s a matter of polarity and polarity is always a matter of degree.
He may be a “republican” be he is definitely no Conservative… and thankfully he’s holding that plaque instead of it being on a door in DC
This is such smug garbage. So you’re saying that bipartisanship can be saved if only conservative republicans just stop believing in conservative principals and became leftists? Just like a 50 year old man cannot by any stand of logic or law identify as a 6 year old girl, any politician with stances closer to Nancy Pelosi than Paul Ryan cannot identify as a conservative republican. This is the kind of baby food consistency mush that gets fed to budding SJWs.
Great job painting republican voters as slack-jawed yokels that those poor conservative candidates have to smile and nod at. Because, you know, all republican candidates are rich shills for their mega-rich masters that need to win by any means necessary to keep turning their power into wealth, right? Yet republicans are the ones pointed at as tin foil hat crazies. Too funny.
Just another example of another RINO that didn’t get hugged enough as a kid and lost the support of his party so he went to the one place he was guaranteed to get all the attention he craves: stroking the egos of the elitist left who just LOVES to hear republicans tell them how misguided they were before they saw the light.
The GOP is the most under threat today because of its compromises. Being conservative and denying science are two different things. It is perfectly fine to disagree with each other but not being honest with coal country about why coal is down or ignoring science to please a donor. Fanning flames about a man birth home and religion have nothing to do with being conservative. Dems have their problems too but a Democrat doesn’t need promote conspiracy to get elected. Undermining military and FBI intelligence and targeting free media is not conservative.
Agreed. I think the Republican party doesn’t have many conservative values anymore. It needs to be for free market not pro business (esp. big business). They used to defend the environment. They need to get some libertarian values back too cuz that part could become a valid 3rd party. I feel that they don’t believe in enterprise anymore. Its a shame because we need 2 valid approaches and opposing ideals to keep thing in balance.
I’m not sure you actually heard what was being said in the video. Your first paragraph is not a response to this video but instead some sort of idea of what you think you heard. Very strange. Its almost like “so what your saying” shinanigans.
