The journey through loss and grief | Jason B. Rosenthal

In her brutally honest, ironically funny and widely read meditation on death, "You May Want to Marry My Husband," the late author and filmmaker Amy Krouse Rosenthal gave her husband Jason very public permission to move on and find happiness. A year after her death, Jason offers candid insights on the often excruciating process of moving through and with loss — as well as some quiet wisdom for anyone else experiencing life-changing grief.

    • But there is no god, didn’t you hear the talk clearly? He makes no mention of superstitious belief or supernatural events.

  5. Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children – like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from Allah and approval. And what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion. (The Noble Qur’an. Surah Hadid. Verse:20)
O you who have believed, let not your wealth and your children divert you from remembrance of Allah . And whoever does that – then those are the losers. (The Noble Qur’an. Surah Al Munafıqun. Verse:9)
And this worldly life is not but diversion and amusement. And indeed, the home of the Hereafter – that is the [eternal] life, if only they knew. (The Noble Qur’an. Surah Al Ankabut. Verse:64)
And We did not create the heaven and earth and that between them in play.
Had We intended to take a diversion, We could have taken it from [what is] with Us – if [indeed] We were to do so.
Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it, and thereupon it departs. And for you is destruction from that which you describe. (The Noble Qur’an. Surah Al-Anbya. Verse:16-17-18)
Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned. (The Noble Qur’an. Surah Al-Anbya. Verse:35)
Every soul will taste death. Then to Us will you be returned. And those who have believed and done righteous deeds – We will surely assign to them of Paradise [elevated] chambers beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers. (The Noble Quran. Surah Al Ankabut. Verse 57-58)
Listen to the voice of the Noble Quran.
Maybe your life will be changed If God allows.

  6. WOW !!!! Thank you for this Jason. I lost my wife to lung cancer in Nov 2016. And recently I have been saying, I’m now ready to start my life a NEW. New place, new location, new, new, new. I need a fresh start, not to runaway from this, but just to get my head clear so I too can focus. My wife died in our bed also, on Nov 26 at 430am unable to breathe, 2 days after Thanksgiving. A most horrific scene of tears, anger, sorrow where 4 of our 5 grown kids were over the house for the Holiday weekend. At times I feel healed, other times I to feel guilty, that I am here and Chrissy is not. And that morning scene as the EMS arrived continually plays in my head, thinking, what could I have done differently to save her..

  7. I lost my husband of 44 years suddenly four years ago- I came home from school and found him. I applaud you for your strength in presenting this, belong to the same club no one really wants to belong to, and I pray for your continued healing.
