Really, in high-school studying was my life. Yeah, I had friends, we went out. I played tennis, did well in tennis but again you have to have that extracurricular activity in order to get into that college so it was really just being shoved into a system.
Then in college, you are pressured to do well and everything, but once you get into a good college you kind of feel relieved. So where is your energy going to go now? How are you going to prove yourself now? Well, socially. You know you are in an environment where everyone is going out– who can be the most popular? who can have the most fun? and you get sucked into that. Part of that game is drinking which is just–I can't tell you how crippling drinking is.
So after a month or two of doing that–where you are trying to meet all these people, make new friends, always saving face, always being on you A-game– and drinking is part of that game but its not helping you stay on your A-game, its hurting you, its bringing you down. You're just not creative, you're not being yourself, you're just a product of a system. A system that is opposing and forcing you to behave certain ways.
With Transcendental Meditation its just a release from all that. You see that and accept it but you can operate in a totally new and creative way. It's mind blowing to be able to experience that difference.
