my wrists get very sore in any position where bodyweight is on the palms like a push up/plank position. any way around this?
Going through this exact same thing and learning so much. Thanks for sharing
Hey Kino,
Great vid. I injured my knee when I first started doing yoga seriously and that injury is what finally made me switch from power/flow yoga to Ashtanga yoga. It was a spiritual as well as a physical calling. I lift weights too and any seasoned gym rat knows that strength imbalances lead to injury. Asht. yoga takes these imbalances and throws them in your face. That’s why I like it so much, it’s a brutally honest practice.
(p.s. wherever you’re at it looks very futuristic haha)
Really nice message!
Always follow any intense pose with a counterpose to aid recovery. Everybody will feel sore too with holding too long. Flex wrists to counterpose wrist extension.
haha surrender to God and the church bells rang!!! love it!
Beautiful legs!
thank you very much for your advice!
Hi Kino, did you ever experience snapping a tendon while practising yoga? I heard a snap while doing standing half lotus, now it pains while doing the posture, any advice?
Same here. On both my left knee and hip joint :p
That unfortunately sounds like an injury 🙁 You have to slowly heal the body and be sure to get a diagnosis.
Hi Kino
Thank you for your video 🙂
The past weeks I have experienced burning pain in the sides of my knee joint from the yoga. People say to be very careful with that, so I wonder if I should stop the practice? It comes in most postures also even sun salutations.
But at the same time with that I have had my doubts with the yoga and I think I am learning to either commit fully or let it go. Part of me really wants to commit, but when I get the pains I feel more pushed to stop it.
+Pau Casas You don’t have to stop the practice, just modify the postures where you feel pain. Get a proper diagnosis and speak with your teacher about it so that you know what you’re dealing with and how to modify and ultimately help the body heal.
Hi Kino thanks for your video , lot of information what I was looking for . I have been recently diagnosed with osteoarthritis of knees , I was in Mysore for three months came back in feb this year . I was fine there , after coming back had slight pain in my knees went to doctor , did xray , xray report shows slight bone changes are there in my knee . And i cant sit in lotus position as comfortably as I could earlier . My question is can I continue with ashtanga yoga practice with this osteoarthritis of knee . Please do reply , as I really love this practice , and if you think I can continue with the practice please do advise what all to keep in mind while practicing .
Thanks,
Ramnik
Energy and psychic healer?! LOL
Great advice but not always easy when teachers keep wanting you to keep going with asana practice even when you are in pain. And wanting to respect what teachers tell you to do, you end up with more injury. How do I tell my teacher?
If there is some teacher who is ignoring your pain and causing you more injury that would be a teacher I would dump with the quickness. There is no sense in that. At the end of the day these teachers are only people, they are not Gods and you must speak up on your own behalf. You have to listen to and respect your own body. No one can do that but you. You have to think of your practice in the long term over the totality of your life and when you do that you are less inclined to be reckless with your body or allow anyone else to be.
Hello Kino! I attempted to do the front splits with my left leg. (A split that I’ve never done with left leg) And I was kind of drunk and I was dancing salsa. So the song was over and I did the split with the left leg for the first time! BUT I got injured. It hurts and Idk what to do.
