Sugar is the core ingredient used by the food industry to make bad ingredients (processed flour and chemicals) taste good. It is also the root cause of why so many of us are sick. We become stuck in a vicious cycle of cravings; eating sugary foods that spike our blood sugar, thereby lighting up our brain’s pleasure center. This triggers more cravings, and we become powerless against our brain’s hardwired response to seek pleasure. It’s no wonder so many people feel trapped!
In this mini-episode, we revisit Dr. Hyman’s conversation with actors Keegan Allen and Tom Hopper in which they discuss how they broke free from sugar addiction by becoming their own advocates, reading food labels, and choosing real, whole foods.
Keegan Allen is an American actor, musician, photographer, and author. He’s known for his main role as Toby Cavanaugh on the Freeform series Pretty Little Liars.
Tom Hopper is an English actor. He has appeared as Sir Percival in Merlin, Billy Bones in Black Sails, Dickon Tarly in Game of Thrones, and Luther Hargreeves in Netflix’s new show The Umbrella Academy.

Ima weak baby that eats sugar all the time T_T
Do not be a sugar junky.
I on OMAD LCHF, now doing my 72 hours fasting. No craves for any sugar…
What is LCHF?
@CK M
It generally means low carbohydrate high fat diet. It does not mean eating lots of processed fat foods.
It focuses on nuts, avocados, fish, beef, small amounts of dairy and small amounts of olive oil.
I myself eat a LCHF diet and green vegetables are at the heart of the diet.
You can be low carbohydrate and still have the odd sweet threat but it must only be occasional. Once you base your diet around cruciferous vegetables it becomes very difficult to squeeze processed sugar foods in there.
There is just not much space for anything else.
Thank you for this terrific video!! I’m a recovering sugar addict. It’s a tough addiction.Low Carb/mostly carnivore and Intermittent Fasting have been a godsend for me! Love from Vermont
I could have written this reply! I’m in the same boat. Love low carb and mostly carnivore. Intermittent fasting makes me feel so much better. I’ve lost almost 15 pounds.
I’m mostly carnivore and no longer crave anything processed. I do still crave apples though, and eat them almost daily. I hope the fructose isn’t undermining my efforts to eat healthy. Can’t seem to give them up.
It’s horrible , it’s everywhere!
Always love Dr.’s Farmacy vids, but the title of this one is misleading and doesn’t make sense. There were really no comprehensive strategies or advice laid out on how to break a sugar addiction.
THE MESSAGE WAS TO EAT WHOLE FOODS AND GIVE YOUR MIND/BODY TIME TO ADJUST…PERIOD.
Excellent dialogue.
This type of informational program should be required in schools and be on mainstream television.
We have been brainwashed by greedy corporations for decades.
Fortunately, programs like this are waking people up.
Thanks brother Mark and all those involved for all you do!
Peace and love
THE MESSAGE = EAT WHOLE FOODS THEN GIVE YOUR MIND & BODY TIME TO ADJUST. THIS ALONG WITH SOME TYPE OF EXERCISE, GOOD SUPPLEMENTS, REST & STRESS RELEASE WILL HAVE US ALL AT OUR BEST.
All of your videos are superb, Dr. It will be nice and helpful, if you can host a Q&A session for your subscribers.
Where is this full-length interview? They didn’t really discuss “How To Break Your Sugar Addiction” rather than talk about why it’s important to break it. I need help! What did they do to overcome sugar addiction? Is it discussed in the full-length interview?
There’s a link in the description under the video.
Eat it how God made it
This is the key – STOP EATING IT! The sooner you stop the better off you’ll be.
Restaurant food is incredibly problematic and so many people eat out. It would be so helpful if they would list the ingredients in their dishes.
Even non gmo grains and legumes are sprayed with Roundup at harvest to dry them out. Have to go organic on those.
