i have trouble with this, i actually use the wall to slide down then come back up, not sure if thats a good way to train myself to just drop back.
Thank you for this and so many other videos of you which have been great help for my yoga practice. I learn a lot from them and find them very, very useful. One question about this – in this video after 50 seconds your feet flare out. Is that right or we should try to keep them parallel throughout? I have been trying to do this posture by keeping feet parallel (which I think is harder…not sure though since I can’t yet drop back).
Thank you very much for the helpful videos.
Great muscle tone! Crikey avoid those crunching sensations! Can’t be good! Nice one Kino!
Hi Kino, do you happen to have any videos of full-fledged yoga sequences?
Hi Kino. I submitted a video response. I’ve been working on keeping my feet parallel throughout the movement, but does it really matter? Any feedback most welcome, please keep up the great work.
hahaha 🙂 ty
Thanks
thanks for your reply
hi Kino. I am inspired by your videos and would like to begin an ashtango practice. but my hamstring is hurt (painful by forward bend) . do you think it’s okay for me to start practicing with such injuries (as I saw there are many forward bending/stretching pose) in the primary sequence
You inspire me to do this posture!!! Thank you!
I don’t know Kino — I’ve been trying to stand up from urdhva dhanurasana for almost a year and I don’t feel like I’m any closer to doing it than I was last year. Is it possible that it’s just anatomically impossible for some people to get their hands and ankles close enough to stand up? Or are my hamstrings just too weak?
Jody, I agree with you. It is anatomically impossible for some people to do this. When I drop back, I literally DROP back – Kino leans back and touches her hands down on the floor – impossible for me. See how close Kino’s hands are to her feet, she is just so flexible in the spine and shoulders – we’re not all built that way. Keep trying for sure, but don’t think this is what a anyone with a ‘normal’ body can do.
Love your vids Kino!
Kino it’s so lovely that you take the time to reply to comments… My comment was more referring to standing up out of the backbend. People should know the difference between tension and compression in order to understand what is realistic for their bodies. Muscle tension can be lengthened or released; bone compression can not. It is bone on bone compression that make some postures anatomically impossible. Watch this great 3 minute vid from Paul Grilley… /watch?v=ve_GUyEHdfI Namaste.
this is irresponsible gymnastics…you could hurt someone….bad girl
kino you are amazing 🙂 another tip: i learned by doing back bend next to wall then using my hands spider man up the wall… it helps you get use to the transfer of your
weight 🙂
Urdhva Dhanurasana Instructional Series 3 & 4evel: Beginner – Intermediate. Instructions for moving into Urdhva dhanurasana from the floor using props
Thank you so much for posting all these yoga instructions on how to do some of the more advanced poses!
Hi Kino,
After seeing this video i had a question.
I see your feets are turned out at 0:57 sec.
My Yoga teacher taught me to keep them straight/parallel to my hips..
Is that right..or can i also turn it out like you did in this video ?
Working my way up to this, love it! You are such a good teacher; I really understand the way you explain things!
+Rachael Lattanzi Thanks, that’s awesome! Keep practicing 🙂
