We all deal with trauma at some point in life, but the good news is we can address it and come out stronger using the right tools. Since trauma is kept in both the mind and body, it makes sense that modalities that tap into the mind-body connection are successful to produce long-lasting healing. In this mini-episode Dr. Hyman is joined by world-renowned expert in using mind-body medicine to heal depression, anxiety, and psychological trauma, Jim Gordon, to discuss how trauma affects the gut and why nutrition is part of his trauma-healing protocol to help the entire body heal.
Dr. Jim Gordon is the author of The Transformation: Discovering Wholeness and Healing After Trauma and is a Harvard educated psychiatrist and a world-renowned expert in using mind-body medicine to heal depression, anxiety, and psychological trauma. He has worked with traumatized children and families in Bosnia, Gaza, Haiti, post-9/11 New York, and Parkland, among many other areas across the world facing tragedy and trauma. Dr. Gordon also works with veterans and active-duty military to address PTSD.

Thank you
They are so wrong. For those who have histamine issues. Do not follow what they say.
Jojo Jo I think I have histamine issues because eating fermented foods makes me get a sinus headache. What do you do if you don’t mind sharing?
Would 14 yrs of chronic fight or flight stress that cannot be resolved cause stomach, gall bladder, liver, and digestive problems in general?
Yes, but why chronic?? Doesn’t make sense. Coping mechanisms, deep breathing, sleep quality, foods and do on. Everything is connected and has a affect.
@Station 3467 I have had a series of things happen due to a severe trauma in 2006. It is a situation that created other situations to where there is no permanent solution so I am trying to learn to live with the results of the original trauma. It is complicated to explain. However, the stress has caused some health issues and I am trying to learn to deal with it all.
I have fasted in the past to try to resolve anxiety, ADHD, depression, candida and other issues. 21 day water only fast actually cured my rosacea but didn’t help with the rest. I’ve been strictly keto for over a year and do intermittent fasting as well. Even doing that, sometimes 18/6 but usually OMAD isn’t clearing these things up. About to try carnivore next. What else can I do?
Meditiation, the silva method, read neville Goddard…
Do you exercise?
Have you tried swimming or doing vinyasa yoga? Taking Zumba classes? Whatever you do, do it daily.
Exercise = endorphins = happiness.

He lost me when he said eat less red meat because it’s inflammatory. Absolutely no proof of that whatsoever. Plenty of carnivore folks resolving all sorts of autoimmune and inflammatory conditions eating only red meat, including organ meats.
We’re all different. Ditching red meat and dairy has been life-changing, life-giving for me. I’m a new person, no pains, no migraines, clear skin and peaceful sleep.
I eat quinoa and automatically get a wave of calmness.
Just be sure to soak it overnight.
