Why Cholesterol May Not Be the Cause of Heart Disease with Dr. Aseem Malhotra

Cholesterol has become so confusing. The reality is, most of us have little understanding about the cholesterol levels in our blood and the whole topic is much more complicated than we previously thought. Many people still believe that eating cholesterol and fat, especially saturated fat, causes heart attacks and that taking statin drugs provides a powerful way to reduce your risk of heart attacks. But is this really true?
My guest on this week’s episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy is here to bust the cholesterol myth, and he is a cardiologist! Described as an inspiration by Jamie Oliver, internationally renowned Consultant Cardiologist and best-selling author of The Pioppi Diet, Dr. Aseem Malhotra has become one of the most influential and well-known health campaigners, and a pioneer of the lifestyle medicine movement in the UK. Today we talk about myths around heart health, and what it truly means to be heart healthy.

  1. Bravo. It is so long overdue that the establishment gets up to speed on cholesterol, diets, keto and heart disease. They seem to be so mired on 50 year old data

  2. Mark another great interview. Both of you have shared with us a fantastic amount of knowledge about what is wrong and ideas of what is needed to change

  3. Since cutting out carbs and plants to a bare minimum, I’ve started to have a regular period. I’m 33 and I’ve never had a regular period, and I started at 11. Meat, butter, eggs, and dairy (raw unpasteurized milk) is so great for human health and consumption. My weight is also dropping off. Will never look back.

  4. I have been listening to find out. My husband had a heart attack and they put a stent in. They put him on a statin and told us this was to keep the stent clear as it is a newer stent material. Is this true? Just a note, he never had high cholesterol and he has never been over weight. Interesting.

    • Brenda Douglas keep reading and researching ketogenic diets – the culprit is likely not cholesterol but more so carbs/insulin and the resulting inflammatory response. Also, watch “The widow maker” documentary. It’s not all a conspiracy, but a series failures and fallacies that have shaped our ideologies

  5. Go on offense gentlemen. We are at war with those scientists and medical doctors who have sold themselves out like prostitutes to the junk-food packaged food providers. The latter are the enemies and are adhering to a “eat shyt and die” business model – a model that literally feeds into the medical and big pharma parasite market by expanding the market and taking out a life’s savings from those who have labored as sharecroppers in this farce of a social and cultural system we now call “civilization”. These are the parasites of humanity that are trying to infest us at a cultural and philosophical level as a de defacto super-parasite; a toxic organism that lives only to enslave humanity at large and suck the life out of it – and ironically kill itself in the process. The only way to win is all out fumigation at a legal and philosophical level or else to deploy the same win-win compromise that the human body used in the evolutionary process to reverse the parasite relationship by changing the energy pathways to USE the parasites as an energy source in exchange for life and existence (how our mitochondria became “human” by a synergy relationship with the original parasitic organisms that infected the corpus of humanity).

In the interim, if they don’t think sugar and starches are the bad addictive drugs that they really are then make it mandatory to getting a license to “practice” medicine to require they have their own skin in the game that they make a living on. Let them ante up with their own skin and lives. Require that THEY be used as the placebo groups to take the literal “sugar pills” as the control group as well as the random test specimens for all the exotic drugs being trialed. One way or the other – we can rid ourselves of this illness by reducing the population of the parasites so that they revert to cannibalizing themselves. Win-Win for even them as we collapse the supply and the demand simultaneously to migrate them out of the market to more productive things. Petri dish material for the museums of the future who will look back at this age of Frankenstein medicine that cobbles together people with organ transplants and calls that “medicine” and doctoring. Outrageous.

  6. Great interview! What an eye opener. I have had high Ldl for years, but also have hypothyroidism. Not sure if the latter is the cause of the first? So to clarify, its the total cholesterol i should be looking at? Thank you!

  7. God bless you, for sharing REAL information. I believe in you.
This is important for the future generations have all this videos well explained.

  8. Thanks once again for introducing more professionals in the industry. Did you know functional medicine is listed as ‘pseudoscientific’ in Wikipedia? It saved my life, reversed diabetes in BIL, reversed heart disease in husband, and very happy I had the resources to get the right help when it mattered. Interesting you talk about Michele Obama and the movie ‘FedUp’. She was not in the final cut, there was an afternote she declined to be interviewed. Love that the Gatorade bottles aren’t filled with that stuff!

  9. Keep the info coming! As an RN, I have been on Low carb/high fat for five years. The last three has been closer to Keto. My labs are now excellent. Came off po diabetes medication..and off one of two blood pressure meds. Lost weight..and am 67 years old. I am thrilled. Please, keep giving the statistics and what we put into our mouths. Food is medication. I also took myself off statins after a year and feel awesome. A1C dropped from 9.2 to 6. Still working at lowering it further. Thank you so much!! Keep talking! (off all sugar, grains, and junk food. Real food is best).

  10. I like what Aseem has to say. For some reason I recall Nick Mailer criticizing this guy for saying one thing on podcasts but then failing to update his private practices’ website as having something about low-fat diets as treating heart disease – but I couldn’t find it. I did notice he said he treats patients with a Mediterranean diet, but hey, that’s better than anything that’s heavy in refined carbs, just doesn’t guarantee the benefits of ketosis. Keep up the great interviews Mark!!
