What Kind Of Dairy Is Best?

If you’re lactose intolerant or sensitive to dairy, then you should avoid it at all costs. But even if you are tolerant, I recommend that most kinds of dairy still shouldn’t be a major part of your diet. It’s fine to have some grass-fed milk, cheese, and butter from time to time, as long as they’re full-fat, free of additives, and ethically and sustainably produced. You can also try sheep or goat products as they’re less inflammatory and easier to digest.

I’m joined by Dr. David Ludwig on this episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy to discuss his latest research on milk and dairy. We dive into why the milk recommendations from the government are not based on evidence.
David S. Ludwig, MD, PhD is an endocrinologist and researcher at Boston Children’s Hospital. He holds the rank of Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Ludwig is co-director of the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center and founder of the Optimal Weight for Life program, one of the country’s oldest and largest clinics for the care of overweight children.

    • I drank a lot of raw milk from goats as I grew up and I’m perfectly fine.
But they were my goats and they only ate leaves.
Heating will destroy vitamin C in milk.

    • @Arrasel Sure. I used to smoke 1-2 packs of cigarettes a day for more than two decades. According to my doc im perfectly fine. – Anecdotes mean diddly.

    • Pasteurisation destroys all the vitamins and enzymes, leaving only the minerals. Homogenisation creates tiny particles capable of crossing the intestinal wall, causing immense damage to the digestive system.

  1. A2 milk has nothing to do with the pastures. It’s a particular protein found in the milk that only some cows produce. A1 and A2 Proteins have different amino acid profiles. A2 is claimed to be better tolerated. Some people who thought they were lactose intolerant find they can drink it. Some people can’t drink the milk most cows produce because it has the A1 protein. A2 was almost bred out of cows but more dairies are producing A2 only milk now. Only cows with a particular gene produce A2 protein. Having said all that, I no longer consume dairy.

  2. Milk is for baby calves to grow to 1400 lbs in one week. Do you see any cows suckling a human? Dairy causes excessive mucus in the lungs. Asthmatics stay away from dairy. You’ll be glad you did.
