For so long we were told that having low LDL cholesterol is the key to preventing heart disease, which led to doctors overprescribing statins to keep LDL low. Many people still believe that eating cholesterol and fat, especially saturated fat, causes heart attacks and that taking statin drugs provides a powerful way to reduce your risk of heart attacks. But is this really true?
In this mini-episode Dr. Hyman sits down with internationally renowned Consultant Cardiologist and best-selling author of The Pioppi Diet, Dr. Aseem Malhotra. Dr. Malhotra has become one of the most influential and well-known health campaigners, and a pioneer of the lifestyle medicine movement in the UK. Together, Dr. Hyman and Dr. Malhotra discuss the effectiveness of statin drugs on heart disease, and Dr. Malhotra discusses why he believes that reducing insulin resistance may be the key to better heart health.

I truly appreciate your channel Doc
sugar stains ???
it has been corrected ha ha
Thanks Ali
Sorry to say it, but the music in the intro is too loud over the voice. Has to be lower 😉
My aunt was prescribed statins for YEARS and it led to severe neurological damage. She finally chose euthanasia as a way out because she was unable to walk for the last five years of her life.
Most of the ultra processed foods in the US have more calories from fat than they have from sugar.
Calories do not matter so..the combination of both fat and sugar together in one food (processed foods) have been labeled as a “fat bomb”! Like what Dr Lustig has said a million times, calories do not matter but what type of calorie absolutely matters! Spikes in insulin is the thing to avoid, fat does not do much of this and sugar is the devil!
@Jeff Skyberg
I have heard that a lot of people have to give up on keto fat bombs because they over eat
them, so calories do matter no matter what kind if one is overeating them. The old saying calories in calories out still holds true today. There are plenty of people who eat lots of sugar but are not overweight and have no problems with sugar spikes. I personally have to stay away from sugar, but I am smart enough to know not to over eat any of the macros.
Wonderfully broken down to the public. Thank you Dr Mark Hyman.
Hello typo in the title…
(Love every single one of your post)
Thank you Dr. Hyman. I appreciate you interjecting in here and summing things up for us. Your voice is so soothing to listen to. Good info.
Great info! I just wish there was a way to get doctors to listen to this newer info concerning cholesterol vs insulin resistance & cardiac health. Most doctors are still using archaic guidelines for optimal health.
In addition to removing the sugar, eliminate foods fried in vegetable oil and add fasting and you will solve all of these problems.
The effectiveness of statins is practically in the neighborhood of a *_rounding error._*
thanks for adding closed captions. One thing, YouTube is not recognizing your captions. Therefore they are not being enlarged as MY YouTube settings direct auto captions to do. So, they remain small, and I can’t read them because the autocaptions covef them up. ☺
I love this one. Thank you to both doctors.❤️
Using your Choleslo along with total vegan, oil free, low to no sodium diet.. and exercise/ walking.. Fingers crossed.❤ BP has already dropped tremendously!! I was on generic for Crestor 5mg.. Lasted 2 weeks.. Thought I was dying.. Multiple horrible side effects.. I stopped. Must be a better way. 100% compliant..
Great stuff guys – spot on. Thx.
Cut out the sugar. The insulin will follow.
Good video.
The reality is we live in a world today where people can not eliminate carbohydrates completely. Eating more meat is not sustainable for our planet, but eliminating meat means low protein and more starch and carbs.
